Good Bang for your Buck

Considering the wide range in prices of irons, it can be tough to make a choice. I do like the self-retracting cord because we all hate trying to wrap it and make it stay on the iron while storing it. It performs well with a good amount of even steam, very rarely does it drip, and it heats up to what you would expect. But before you buy, do your research and check out the irons that have a football-shaped plate so that you can iron frontwards and backwards or any angle really. It's a time saver and keeps you from creating unwanted creases.

Professional Grade Product

Really like this one. A seamstress friend praised this purchase. Didn't realize when I bought it that it is the iron-of-choice for many professionals. I'm not a pro, but I am fastidious (prior military) and this meets my expectations. The delivery of steam, in particular, is VERY effective. I've used this iron for everything from creasing lace doilies to knocking folded seams out of area rugs. Works like the proverbial charm. Very rugged, well-designed, a retractable cord THAT WORKS and perfect weight!

Overall, an excellent appliance

Rowenta DW2459 Overall, I find this iron to be a pleasure to use. Its substantial weight and ergo-dynamic design allow for smooth forward, backward, and side to side motion for quick and effortless ironing. Strengths - The cord is the perfect weight with quality rubber covering that does not snag as it drags over fabric as do other irons. - The cord rewind has strong tension with a convenient push button activator at the base of the handle. - The thermostat knob is smooth and sturdy with a quality feel. - I have not yet used the steam function for upright garment steaming so I can’t address that option. - The spray button is conveniently located next to the steam button at the head of the handle and has a quality feel and slow, cushioned recoil. The spray nozzle at the tip of the iron sprays a uniform and steady mist with minimal oversized drops. - The spray coverage area is substantial and if the user gets a feel for swiping left and right while spraying, the iron becomes even more effective with coverage. - The handle is comfortable with a well-designed shape and angle. - The soul plate has efficient coverage area with a narrow tip that fits well under overlays. - The iron has a comfortable weight that works well to effortlessly iron out wrinkles without much if any additional pressure. - This model comes with an auto off safety feature that switches the iron off if left on the soleplate motionless for 30 seconds or if left on its heel untouched for 8 minutes. A red light at the top of the handle just below the steam and spray buttons indicates whether or not the iron is on, while an amber light on the left side of the base of the handle shuts off when the iron has not been used but turns back on once you move the iron, indicating that the soleplate will now reheat. - The heel of the iron is wide and stable. - The soleplate cools remarkably quickly after turning the iron off. Suggestions - The soleplate scratches easily; after the first use a number of scratches appeared at the tip, the center, and a small area in between that could only have been caused by knots of thread on the underside of buttons; the soleplate did not contact buttons or zippers. - The owners manual that comes with this model shows the icons reversed for release valve steam/spray slide from what actually is displayed on the iron; a more generic Rowenta iron instruction guide downloaded for comparison displays the same reversed configuration. - The instructions note that the release valve pin attached to the steam/spray slide is not replaceable if damaged. This should be a replacement part. - The instruction guide directs the user to release the steam lever valve pin to the self clean position and keep it in the raised position for self cleaning; this position is unclear in the diagram as it shows the user holding the pin instead of it being in a locked position. - To reduce having to use the anti-calc feature for my extremely hard water, I just use spring water.

Great Iron

I ordered this iron online because we live in rural Montana and I didn't have time to drive 200 miles on bad roads to buy an iron. So, it was sort of a "site unseen" purchase. I have had several Rowenta irons through the years. When took this one out of the box I was afraid that it was too heavy for me. Nope, it just took some getting used to the weight! I'm a quilter so I do a LOT of ironing. This is the best iron I've ever used in my many year of ironing! Get one for yourself. You won't be sorry!!!

Heats up well, but water leaks a bit

Heats up well and I like the retractable cord so I don’t have to worry about that. One problem on mine is the water that I poured in the iron sometimes leaks out a bit much but this is a common problem in most irons. 4/5

I love my Rowenta Iron. I’m a quilter and I must have a great iron to press my quilt squares. I love the cord going inside the iron for storage.

Fantastic iron!

I use my iron for ironing and pressing so it NEEDS to be a little heavy. What a silly criterion for rating “lightness”. Anyway my husband said “but my Panasonic is top of the range! It only spits lime scale all over my clothes because you did it wrong!” I held my tongue over “top of the line” and told him, try it. Comes back shortly after with a beautifully ironed shirt and says “ok. You were right.” I think this iron was worth the money. If you set your water to a very narrow stream it does in the hole just fine. I love the flat ironing plate that doesn’t leave dots and scallops on my fabric and I love the hundreds of holes even in the middle. Have not had any leaking or wet spots.

Great iron

I have to admit, I am no expert in irons. But I really like this one. I use it primarily to iron dress shirts. It works very well, and seems to be very well built. The retractable cable is amazing, and is long enough in my opinion. It looks good, it works well, and it is convenient to use. I am happy!
