Seems sturdy

Heavy, easy to set up and use. Seems solid but I’d rather not see it’s water and fire resistance tested against my possessions. Solid gasket around the door and thick outer walls though so I believe what it’s rated for.

Great storage

This is a very well made safe. I can't speak to the waterproof feature as yet, but all of the other attributes are much better than the old Sentry Fire Safe I once owned. The latch mechanisms are sturdy, hold the lid tightly closed, but release easily and completely to open the lid. There is a recess at the front to put your fingers in to lift the lid. The file cavity is larger in all dimensions than my old safe. This design also has deep cutouts on each side to allow the safe to be more easily lifted and carried. None of these features are found on the Sentry, you had to lift and carry the safe from the bottom, tough to lift a 40lb safe with just fingertips. You had to almost stand on the lid to get the mechanism to release, which thankfully broke and fell off the front of the safe, rendering it completely useless, as it would no longer lock. Even at the slightly higher price you will be pleased you purchased the Honeywell, and it's waterproof.

this thing is very very heavy

I made a mistake buying this . It is to heavy to move easily, be sure to buy the cart. If your afraid of theft this may be ok. The ad should warn of the weight. For semi comm.use 5 stars for my home use 1 star

Delivered promptly and neatly package

I took care in reviewing some other brands for fireproof and waterproof safebox. I picked this Honeywell safebox because I already have other model of same brand which I need additional safebox for more important stuff. Also before ordering, it said it would be deilvered 3 business days while other brands would take around 2 weeks. I already have plenty of standard hanging files that do fit. No damages and deliver person took picture of package on my porch to email me asking how was the delivery. I tried to click on "It was great" but it requires manage canvas extraction permission so I came here and wrote the review instead. I haven't test fireproof and waterproof on it but I just take their word for it.

A few small issues, but mostly works fine

The case is absurdly heavy for its size, but that's probably a benefit - thieves may be less willing to haul it away! The plastic casing feels cheap, I wouldn't trust it to a drop or a top / side impact. The lock mechanism is mostly for show, it's very cheap, clunky, and difficult to work with. The interior of the safe appears to be high quality. Good seal with latches and appropriate fireproofing. Because of the fireproofing, you are required to air out the safe once a month. There isn't much to complain about here, it's a product of the material. I haven't personally verified it's resistance to water and fire, but it seems solid.

This is a well designed product to protect important documents against fire and flooding.

I ordered this on Amazon and it was delivered with shipping damage. Amazon processed a return at no cost to me other than my time to take it to a UPS Store. A replacement was sent and received a few days later. The replacement was in perfect condition and will be put to its intended use. This is a heavy safe due to the insulation materials used. I have no doubt the heat and time ratings tested by UL laboratories are accurate. The closure system, lock, and gasketing are adequate and it seems to me will meet heat exposure and the 24 hour submersion specifications. It is interesting that the recommendation is to open the safe very two weeks to air out so that a mildew smell is avoided. This seems like a lot of maintenance but it shows that the Honeywell understands that if the documents are valuable enough to protect from fire and flood that mildew would be a problem too. I will use a desiccant inside the safe and open less often. If that works then it won't go on my things to do list to open the safe and air it out every two weeks. In any event it a well designed product for fire and flooding protection but not so much for theft. The lock is weak and simply taking the whole safe is an option for someone wanting to steal ones valuable documents. So put it someplace or take steps to avoid theft of the entire box.

Good for storing important personal documents, not the family jewels

I went with 4 stars because the two gold colored latches are plastic and ornamental. Because of the gold latches I thought the box had three secure latch points but it only has one in the center. This is a locking fire box chest, not a true safe. The keys are cheap so I do not recommend this box for frequent access, nor do I recommend keeping the keys on your keychain. Best keep them in an obscure location, besides, if you lose you daily cary keychain you don’t want to lose the key to the box where you store spare house and car keys. :-). The lock is as sturdy as I expected for the price and is about as good as you’ll get at this price. I am satisfied with the purchase. It is great for storing passports, birth certificates, etc. It is heavy enough to be a pain in the back to move. I would never use this for high value items. Put those in a safety deposit box or fork over $1,200 or more for a real safe and bolt it to your foundation. This secured chest is good for what it is designed for but I am positive I could open it pretty quickly with a 20 pond sledge hammer. That being said, I knew what I wanted and this safe delivers what I wanted.

Well made, but you can't fit A4 flat in the bottom

After looking at lots of different options from Fire Safe Boxes to Fire Safes, I settled on this as a compromise as it had good reviews, including some YouTube videos of people putting it in fire and water. It is well made and quite heavy. Fire and water proof (within limits) which is better than some. My only small gripe is that you can't lay A4 paper flat in the bottom of it. It comes with some hanging files and you can stand piles of A4 paper on the long edge, but it would have been so much better if you could have laid A4 flat in the bottom. The sides slope slightly and so you could lay A4 flat at the top and to about a third/half of the way down, just not in the bottom. I can fit everything I wanted to in it, so it's not a show stopper, but it would have been nice if they'd just made it that little bit bigger at the bottom to take A4 flat.

Affordable & Durable

In spite of my short time with the product so far and the inability to test the durability claims, I can only comment on the initial impressions of the box's construction. From handling it, the parts don't feel flimsy and are quite sturdy. The hinge, in particular, is quite smooth to both close and shut. As for the internal space, there is sufficient room for letter-sized documents and folder dividers of that size fit great. Overall, impressed with the purchase.

Excellent chest for peace of mind

Arrived next day and thankfully I was in to accept it. Packaging was damaged in various places, but chest seems fine. It is also just packaged in it's box, so everyone will know what you got delivered to you. Seems to fit product specs given. Will have to get a filing system that fits though, as A4 just about fits in, but not a folder or envelope. Came with a packet of silica. Should probably follow the manufacturer's warning to air it out every week to prevent moisture and mold build up. Overall, very pleased with the information provided on Amazon and the product so far, although I wish they did this size in the higher proofing specs. 40kg of the largest chest would just be too heavy for me to handle. Let's hope it will never have to be put to the test for its fire- and waterproof qualities.

This is not an A4 box!

I bought this box to use with suspension files as in the illustration. The box is advertised as A4 but you can only just fit a sheet of A4 paper in it (A4 is 297mm the box is barely 300mm wide. A4 file hangers are far too big. having bought a further supply of hangers that didn’t fit I tried to contact the manufacturer but they are in America. It was only when I visited their site that I realised that the box sold here as A4 ‘Honeywell 1106' is in fact the US ‘Letter size’ version 'Honeywell 1106' ! US ‘letter size’ is only 279.4mm - 18mm shorter. Okay so why don’t I try and get hold of some ‘Letter size’ file hangers!!! There are no suppliers in UK - only available from the US! If they had any marketing savvy they would have included a bunch of files and I would probably have kept the box despite it being a tight fit (you can’t get an A4 envelope in it - 324mm). Instead I have returned it. Great Box - but size does matter.
