Workable in a pinch

Did as needed on a small job, not accurately shaped for precision use though. Will make my own for future projects.

The material is too thick

The jig is great, except for the fact that it's about 1/2". For the hinges, you have to make 2 very deep cuts and with my Bosch plunge router, which about a zillion of us own, the thickness of the jig makes the bottom hole too deep for the max plunge depth on the router. This should be made of very thin hardboard or even thin aluminum. I understand you need enough thickness for the screws, which guide your deep cut, but it's too thick. I even searched for extra long router bits to try to fix the problem that way, but nothing was available for pickup in my town. I would suggest re-engineering this, even if you have to charge more. If I'm paying $15 a hinge, who cares of the jig is $40 or so, we would gladly pay it to speed up the process.

Worked fine but as noted previously, make sure you have the right router template guide.

I practiced a number of times on some spare wood before tackling the door. Make sure you have the right router template guide as noted numerous times. The template guide I had was the right OD and ID but the depth of the guide was not enough to hit the pins for the second mortise and I ended up chewing halfway through one of them. I made another guide for the second mortise as others have noted and that worked for my template guide that I had.

I did not use it with exact required router parts, so I can't really complain about that. I will say the Bosch router I used left the hole too large, but when I used my current router with the hole it cut it was perfect. I used this one as a template to make another one and it worked perfect because the hole it cut in the template was a little smaller, which was perfect when I used it for the door. I will say to try it on some scrap lumber before using it on a finished product to make certain everything fits correctly.

Saved a lot of time, and allowed customization

I think some of the other reviewers don't get it. Yes, this thing is just made of wood, but that's part of what makes it GOOD. I knew I would need to modify it to fit my application. So all I had to do was run it through my table saw, to fit. The whole idea of a template is to be able to fit an unusual situation, and this thing allowed me to easily do that. The hole sizes and 'pin' placement is spot-on.

It is fine for what it is

This guide requires a very specific router and router collar to work correctly. I ended up using this guide as a template and making a similar SOSS guide out of 1/4 inch hardboard that would fit my router and method of collaring. It is fine for what it is, but read the details and make sure you have the router and collar system with which this guide works.

Not worth the cost or effort

I’m afraid this was a waste of money. The paper template works better than the cost and effort of this device.

This template is a must for installing SOSS hinges

Very good directions and hinges fit perfectly. I had never used a plunge router before, but this guide made the cut perfect! Recommend

Do not buy! Buy Templaco or make your own!

The media could not be loaded. First off, made from 5/8" poplar, the wood is very soft, it deforms with light use. The edges on the template I received were not straight, they had imperfections in them (which the guide bushing follows). I was warned not to get the SOSS one, and I should have listened. It would take maybe 30 minutes to make your own out of plywood or MDF. Contacted SOSS and was told a couple times it could not be the template that is defective, was told I either used an incorrectly sized bushing, bit or it was user error. Everything I used I bought specifically for this use, as per SOSS instructions. Next time I use SOSS hinges I'll use Templaco's templates.

Must buy!

This template is definitely a must if this is your first time installing SOSS hinges. Recommended by SOSS and purchased here on Amazon. The template is a huge help.

I bought this to save time but the router guide was not cut accurately. Very annoying. To drill two holes and cut a straight line between them is hard? A perfectly straight line? Come on jig maker!
