Leaks air by gate when closed.

Very well made except when the gate is closed it leaks air. I used some aluminum duct tape around the edges which stopped most leakage. A little better design in the two halves of the molds could have prevented a lot of this air leakage. All in all I would recommend these and purchase them again.

Works Well

I used these to replace all the plastic ones in my system. Must have went through 15+ plastic ones that constantly would get jammed up with dust/shavings and stop closing all the way making my dust collection system lose a lot of suction. Have not had that problem at all with these. BUT, I did come to realize that the opening in the bottom where it's supposed to be able to push out dust/shavings, whichever gate is open you lose suction from that narrow opening on the bottom of the gate. I solved this by just covering that slit with gorilla duct tape on all the metal gates. If a gate gets jammed up with dust I'll just remove the tape to clear it out and then replace the tape. I'd rather do that than have a bunch of plastic ones that won't close all the way.

Okay, but don't expect to mod these

These are fine. Exactly as pictured. But don't expect to do any modifications to them. The screws are hopelessly locked so you can't disassemble it (at least without drilling out the screws). So no chance of flipping the gate handle over or using the screw holes to bolt this to something. You get what you get. Bit of leakage due to bottom air gap so might need to seal those. Otherwise solid. $10/ea is about right in terms of value.

Not good enough for dust collection system in workshop

Great design and matches up well with 2" plumbing PVC piping. Unfortunately, when closed they do not have enough seal. I have 6 connection points and want only 1 open at a time. The other 5 will rattle and the 1 open does not have that great of suction power. When I replaced all of these blast gates with PVC ball balls, the suction power easily doubled/tripled. Good idea but didn't work for me.

Strong but maybe not the best design.

I have broken a bunch of the plastic blast gates, I’m rough on my gear. I thought these would be a great alternative. Unfortunately due to design flaws, there’s quite a bit of air leakage, which I’ve had to tape up. I really wanted to love these, but the lost of suction is very frustrating.

Sturdy but heavy

Heavy is normally a good thing when it comes to woodworking gear. However, if you're using 2 1/2" plastic tubing, this will be like an anchor and there's no way to mount them on a wall. Would have otherwise given 5 stars.

Let too much air through in open position

The back part of these gates are not closed (maybe to prevent dust buildup like what happens in the cheap plastic blast gates?) ... but that means when the gate is in the open position that it's also not sealed which hurts the suction. Not ideal at all, might as well have just continued using the plastic ones that I cut the bottom off of to prevent them jamming up with dust, because these do the same thing. Most metal blast gates have a much longer gate, so if this is what you're looking for these are NOT the ones you want.
