Quality grinding wheel!

I was looking for a fine hard grinding wheel and this wheel was perfect. Overall it was great but the packaging was not good and there was a small chip on one side of the wheel, I am keeping it as the chip does not interfere with grinding.

Good wheel, questionable shipping and handling

The wheel arrived with a chipped front edge. Although it was not packaged properly (loose in the box) the amazon box showed no signs of rough handling. The thin inner box (Norton's) that the wheel came in had seams split and other damage that suggested rough handling BEFORE the item was shipped to me. In addition, I did not find the chip in the box. I suspect that this was not Norton's fault, but can't be sure of that so I deducted one star. This was one of four grinding wheels that I had ordered. They arrived in three different packages. None of the packages had sufficient packing material, but this was the only one damaged. I performed the "ring test" to assure myself that there were no hidden cracks which could produce disasterous results at 3450 RPM. I installed the wheel and dressed it up and it works fine despite the chipped edge. I have contacted amazon's packaging department and have registered my complaints with them. I made it clear that damaged wheels are a serious safety threat to users so I am cautiously optimistic that they will resolve this issue promptly.

Wasn't too happy with Norton

I've used good quality wheels with amazing spacers that actually filled the entire whole and the reducers fit together like a mold. My main reason for returning was because of damaged packaging which we all know that doesn't instill much confidence in safety. However, I did have a chance to inspect before requesting a replacement and for my purposes, it wasn't even close to a quality wheel. Reducers didn't fit well together and they appeared to be designed for a 1/2" grinding wheel. The rest of the stone also appeared to be handled quite a few times before it was sold to me based on the amount of color inconsistency and that actually might be a seller issue. It's going back and I will be staying with the better brands.

Great with some work.

Great wheel, yes at first it runs out of true in all directions. But after taking a 1" O.D. piece of Aluminum round bar, chuck it up in the lathe and bore the ID to 5/8". Put that in place of the blue spacers and the run out becomes minimal. Once running true the wheel is hard wearing but cuts with a sharp action. I suggest a diamond wheel dresser. Good for hss and will cut C2 carbide but not efficiently. I mainly use it for lathe tooling and sharpening drills.

Good enough for my needs; not well balanced

This wheel is good enough for my needs (sharpening mower blades and shaving down aftermarket ill-fitting car parts) but the other reviewers mentioning that the wheel is out of round or out of balance are on to something... I installed this Norton wheel in place of the original 20 year old wheel on my Delta bench grinder. The old wheel was worn down to less than half the size of this new one. Since I was literally 11 years old when I bought this grinder new, I can't accurately remember if my grinder used to vibrate and "walk" this much, but I am annoyed just a bit. I may try a different wheel, or I may finally bolt this thing to my workbench since I've been meaning to do that since I bought it. ...But if I'm going to all that trouble I might just upgrade to something bigger/more powerful anyway since this was basically the cheapest one available at Handy Andy as it was going out of business...

Pro's: it did not fly apart at rated speed. Cons: wheel is not true axially or radially; the center bushings are garbage; arrived with a chip off one of the edges; could not be trued with a dressing stone. threw away the wheel.

High quality product with the required shims

This grinding wheel fit my 5” grinder without any issues. It also came with all the necessary shims to fit my particular bench grinder. It comes with 4 shims/spacers allowing it to fit various grinder shafts. After a quick trial run, the grinding wheel was well balanced (no wobbling). Note that it’s max RPM is 4970. Check your device before you buy.

Works ok

Decent quality abrasive, but took some patience to get it to turn true and not wobble. Poor quality arbor bushings.
