Great but no on/off switch

The instructions suggested there was an on off switch. It turns out that we have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to work.

A great grandpa-grandson activity

I am so glad I ordered this as a way to bond with my grandson. He is naturally curious as any 5-8 year old. I'm sure it will work just as well with a curious young granddaughter. He is now picking up rocks everywhere to polish. In the process, I've been able to show him how to discriminate between different types and which are more likely to look good after polishing. He has made jewelry for Mom and sis.

Amazing for the price!

I collect geodes I find around my house as a hobby and these polish them amazingly! I'll update with pictures when I can, but I love this product!! The stones it comes with are good but it does even the hardest of rocks! Though, it is noisy. I expected as much. After all, it's rocks tumbling in a plastic container...

Great tumbler for beginners

I've only been using it a few days now, but the rocks I'm tumbling are already looking great. They sent a good variety of stones to get started with and clear and easy instructions on how to use the product and what to expect as your stones are processing. It is pretty loud, but that's probably just part of rock tumbling. Great for kids and adults.

Ok, read my review and learn.

I'm just gonna start off by saying, this Tumbler's issues are easily avoidable and I'll go over why your rocks aren't coming out shiny. I'll address the biggest issue people have with this Tumbler; The lid becomes increasingly harder to take off and put on. I, someone who had strength trained most of his life, had a difficult time opening and closing the lid after a while of using it. I do have a solution though. Nat Geo tells you to wash and dry the barrel and rubber lining inside it after every use, well, what happens when you're trying to push two pieces of dry rubber against each other? Yeah, it won't go so well. They stick and won't move. That's what's happening when the rubber of the barrel and the rubber gasket in the lid meet, not allowing you to turn and close. I realized that all it would need to work is to use a little oil. I took a Q-Tip, dabbed it in a little olive oil and just run it around where the lid gasket meets the rubbing barrel lining. Works like a charm! Even a meak child could open and close it after the oil. I would though recommend using something else in place of olive oil since after a while, it will start to rot and smell. I'd use a really light machine oil and use just enough to soak the tip of the Q-Tip. Interlude: I would also recommend taking the entire rubber barrel lining out, cleaning it and the inside of the plastic barrel. A lot of the time, grit and water gets in there and can cause bubbles in the rubber lining or the grit may harden and cause irregular weight on the barrel keeping your rocks from tumbling correctly. Last thing I want to go over is the lack of shine on your rocks. Nat Geo gives you grit for each stage of tumbling, grits one through three are decent but the "polish" is garbage. Their grits are pretty standard, all are Silicon Carbide, Stage One is 60/90#, Stage Two is 120/220# and Stage Three is 600#. All of those are fine and dandy but the "polish" is 1200# Silicon Carbide which will not get your rocks to have a luster. What you want is 1200# Aluminum Oxide. You can get a healthy amount from places like Kingsley North, Rock Tumbling dot com (yeah, I wrote dot come), The Rock Shed or Polly Plastics. You'll want to do two tablespoons of each grit per pound of rock plus media (if you use it) and tumble them for five to seven days. You should get a nice shine on your rocks after all that.

I’d buy this again! It’s great!! Makes beautiful rocks!!

Bought it for a gift for my boyfriend and I got interested in it too. I’d buy it again for myself! We both loved it! So neat to see how the rocks turn out. A word of caution, it’s noisy. Best to have a place to put it where you have a plug and out of the way somewhere where you can close a door.

Great little tumbler

Great little tumbler. Well presented and instruction manual and information booklet. It is a great hobby for a child, and brilliant gift for my 8YO's birthday. Picture was at end of first stage. It is a little noisy and it needs to run for 7 days at a time approx for each one of four stages so worth bearing that in mind. Tbh, after a month I can no longer hear it. Very happy with purchase and am quite getting into tumbling myself ❤️ ????????

A great little tumbler! Amazing fun for kids and adults alike.

Who knew rock tumbling could be so much fun?! I bought this cool set for my 6 year old who loves collecting little rocks and sea glass. She was blown away by the difference after just one hour of tumbling and was very impressed by the rocks included in the kit. The tumbler itself is as quiet as it can be and couldn't be easier to use. Just a few rumbling sessions can turn a gravel and pebble collection into really decorative and pretty little treasures. Great value and with the purchase of a few additional grit packs, should produce magical tumbling results for many years.

Amazing product

Bought my daughter this for Christmas, just wish it was quicker, 4 weeks is a long time to wait for a 10 year old, but it does do the job, quite loud too, but she enjoys it

Starter kit

OK bought for my 9yr old granddaughter, great starter kit but it contains a mix of hardness so some of the sronea wear down quicker and also this leads to not so good reaults. The polishing powder is pants too. But the machine is good and we are looking forward to using again with better grits and grading our stones. The instructions could include a hardness chart.
