A little hard to aim, but a good bare-bones rangefinder overall

I play a lot of golf, and this is my fourth rangefinder. I am too cheap to spend more than $200 on a rangefinder, so I tend to look for value. I have bought rangefinders from "no name" brands before, and have had very mixed luck. Leupold is a good name, so I took a chance on this one. This is Leupold's lowest-end rangefinder, without slope capability, vibration, stabilization, or other premium features. It came with a decent case, although the promised lanyard was missing (not a big deal, since I don't usually use the lanyard anyway). The look and feel is nice, as long as you don't mind the orange color (I don't). I wasn't impressed with the battery cover - it doesn't seem very robust. Hopefully it stands up over time. What I like is that the unit is simple and fast to use - it comes right on and gives you a reading quickly. It seems to be quite consistent, and accurate as far as I can tell. There is no decimal place after the value - for example, you will get a reading of 127 yards, not 127.4. To me, that makes it simpler. One thing I don't like is that aiming is more difficult than with my previous rangefinders because the "target" circle where you need to place the flag is quite small. I have to be more careful to keep my hand steady, whereas I could be more casual about it with my previous rangefinder. Also, I've noticed that this rangefinder occasionally picks up the background features, which was not as much of a problem with my previous rangefinder. If the rangefinder "locks on" to the pin, there is a box that appears around the circle when the reading appears. Sometimes the box doesn't appear, which I think means that it isn't confident in the reading. Note that I have only used this at my home course, where the pins have reflectors built-in. I do not yet know how well it works on standard pins without reflectors. I'll update this review when I get a chance to test it. The other feature I miss is the little vibration my previous rangefinder made when it was locked on target. I will get used to that, though - it actually makes the Leupold quieter to use. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and expect to use this rangefinder a lot over the next few years. If you're looking for a low-end, reliable rangefinder, and you have a steady hand, you should be satisfied with this one.

Great rangefinder and case from pros

The ugly color probably saved me $40. Black case is great, east to use and has room for backup battery. This thing is great, consistent and easy to use. And waterproof.

Laupold is the best

I had to replace an old laser that just played out. I mean it was 15 years old. This is practically the exact same tool. It works great. As expected.

This is my second one the other one was red this is an ugly orange. That is my only complaint
