Quick Installation Tip!!!
I just installed these safety bars on my daughters windows and I have quick tip for anyone installing them yourself to save you time and frustration. Tip: when you remove everything from the box, look for the screws and as soon as you lay eyes on them...throw them out! Either in the garbage or melt them in Mt Doom. Just do anything so they can never see the light of day again. The screws are the absolute worst of trash pig metal. I snapped heads right off using a screwdriver to install even after predrilling. Some snapped as soon as I made a few turns. Would not trust them to brace a child. Real Tip: Honestly, save yourself some aggravation and make sure to use quality screws from the store. I used stainless steel torx self-tapping screws (general purpose/construction wood). Much stronger and easier to use. The bars themselves seem sturdy but that means nothing if you can’t install them or they fail at the point of contact.

Good quality READ REVIEWS FULLY not just these brief descriptions
The John Sterling 1136 Window guard 6 bar was recieved. the item provides adequate protection to keep your child from jumpin/falling out of your window. I installed the bar so that it opens vertically, so I will install a hook to latch it to so in the event we have to egress we can do so without holding it open. The screws that this comes with are junk. I tried to install them and the bolt heads broke off because the torque was to much for the screw. So i used equally long deck screws to install it. I still think these bars were worth the money to provide peace of mind that your child will not fall out of the window and the decking screws are cheap to buy.

Provides peace of mind.
These are nice, good design the way they have the option to swing open. They would be a 5 star if the bars didn't flex at all when pushed on, and if they were more aesthetic. They do their job though, and are definitely strong enough to hold a falling child, just not sure about an adult...

i feel more secure now!
These were a pain to put up, and I've done things like this before. I don't consider myself an expert, but I know what I'm doing. I got them for a window on the side of my house that face's a public walking trail, and had a recently built deck right underneath. These seem to be strong enough, and have enough screws (10) that it would slow someone down so much that it would likely stop a breakin. Oh, and another reviewer mentioned short screws being included with theirs. So I was surprised to nope that the ones worth mine were about 3 inches long.

Solidly built but for a small window frame. Measure before buying.
PROS: Shipping: The product arrived on time and solidly packaged in a large flat box. Quality: The product overall is very sturdy made with solid materials. The white coating is excellent. All the parts (screws, etc) are packaged well in a small sealed bag attached to the back inside label. CONS: TOO SMALL even at full extension for my front window I needed it for. I've heard there were some break ins of windows that sit on the stairwell landing by our front door. I wanted to secure this window more for peace of mind and at least deter or slow down anyone who tries to break the window for entry. However, I neglected to measure the width of the window and found I will have to come up with a solution of putting at least 2 -2x6 pieces of wood to either side of the window frame to then be able to secure this guard to that.

Get the job done
This exactly what I need. We were looking for security grid to protect the windows. After shop around all the local hardware non of them offer adjustable sizing. I went to metal shop they charge $300 per piece. This a great alternative if you don't want spend too much money for security

Ok if you don't mind looking at Swiss cheese rails.
If this window guard were as depicted in the Amazon picture (and the packaging), then it would probably deserve a higher rating. However, all four of the vertical rails are full of holes, giving it an unattractive Swiss cheese effect. I know this is to give you all sorts of mounting options on the outer rails, but why do the inner rails have to have holes? (Answer: reduce the cost of manufacturing by using the same rail material for the vertical pieces). In addition, the quality of the paint is not great, as others have noted. It was already flaking off. The welding could also have been neater.

Finally works after initial frustration
After the initial frustration of figuring how to mount this thing, it works fine. The instructions are very poor and there is a lot of guess work. Ikea instructions are much better ! Some of the paint was chipping off as well. Screwing in the screws is a little tricky as the head of the screw won't make it through the first hole. You have to screw each screw a little at a time to make it work. Kind of frustrating. But, now its up and works fine. Would have given more stars if instructions were better and if paint wasn't chipping off.

throw the screws away
this guard is sturdy but throw the screws away that come with it and go to HD to get #8x3 pan head screws for square bit. i drilled pilot holes and still broke off or stripped almost all the screws. then its a real pain to get them out with vise grips. i also drilled out the hinge side V mount so the screw heads will go through the first hole and fit flush with the second hole gives a neater appearance

Wrong specs!
The height on the 6 bar Window guard is 22'', not 25'' like it states.. Be aware! Pretty flimsy as well...Expected more for the cost.
