Increased pressure

This is made really well, simple to setup, and the hose and nozzle size increased our pressure!

(Lydia McGrew wrote this review.) I have wanted a product like this for a long time that is portable to carry around and water my big lawn. The leader hose on this one came apart on the second try. The bare hose end came completely out of the black sleeve. I wrote an e-mail to customer service from the Gardena web page, and they sent back instructions for reassembling it. These should be included in the package, as they are not intuitive. Even the instructions sent didn't quite match the way it looked, but I was able to figure it out. The customer service agent said coolly in the e-mail that sometimes the couplings work loose from the leader hose in transit from Germany. "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the fact that part of our product instantly falls apart and has to be reassembled" should have been added! I won't try to describe in detail how to fix this except to say that you have to take the black sleeve completely *out* of the coupling, work the hose end all the way up into the top part of the black sleeve, and then painstakingly put everything back together. One can buy a new leader hose and quick-connect fittings at a home store if needed, but one shouldn't have to. Also, users should know that you cannot just use the hose by itself without something or other attached to the far end. The special fitting on the end will block the water from getting out if you try just running water out of the hose by itself, and it will look like it doesn't work. You have to attach something to it with a quick-connect fitting--a sprinkler, a spray head, or even just a quick-connect coupling itself with a "male" end that can go into the end of the hose. Otherwise the water just backs up inside the cassette and the hose and leaks out the wrong side. None of this is stated in the packaging; there are no verbal instructions at all in the package--just pics that don't address these issues. Other than all of that, I think it will *now* work for my needs and may even work very well. It rolls up quite nicely so far. I notice some reviewers mentioning tangles. That always happens to some extent with these cassette hoses, but thus far it's rolling up much more easily than my old portable Ames cassette hose that I have worn out. These cassette hoses are very hard to find, and when I bought a new, portable Ames last year it was leaking from the inside in a way that couldn't be fixed and had to be returned. At least the problem with this Gardena (which costs about twice as much) could be fixed so that the product can be used. FYI, Gardena is in Canada, and customer service is supposedly a toll phone number. I did find out that you can replace the 905 with 800 to make it toll free from the U.S.--800-792-9330. However, I didn't actually get hold of anybody that way. The e-mail address info@gardenacanada.com worked to get some help.

Light, awesome hose reel. Slight criticism - crank is not ambidextrous

So far, so good. My wife LOVES how light and compact this is, but all the hose she needs to water a bunch of large flower pots and bedding plants in the front of the house. Simple to bring the whole reel inside during inclement weather. Only criticism -- almost enough to deduct 1-star, but not quite -- is that i wish the crank was ambidextrous. It just happens that the handle is on the side toward the house when you roll out and reel in the hose. So, for storage, you have to fold the handle in. It's plastic, and I'm sure only a matter of time before the little plastic "clicker" breaks from usage.

Falls over easily. Otherwise very good hose.

The one thing you're likely to do with a free-standing hose reel is walk away from it to unwind the hose. Well, this reel falls right over, and you'll be simply dragging the reel around, instead of uncoiling the hose. There doesn't seem to be a way to keep this from happening, so my wife has asked me to make a custom set of legs to keep it upright. I'd prefer not to spend $150+ on a hose reel and then have to spend a day adding things to it to make it work. The hose is good but you can't attach your favorite nozzle to it without purchasing an additional adapter.

Wonderful for a small garden

This is every bit as easy to use as the other Gardena units I have owned in the past. I live in a condo, but have a surprisingly large private patio and garden area. This cassette lets me access the public faucet and still reach all of my area. I gave it 4 stars rather than the 5 I think it deserves only because the crank would not snap into place as it is supposed to do. Personally, this is not a problem for me because I remove it anyway each time I put the cassette away in my garden storage bench.

I had an earlier version of this hose reel on my service vehicle for some 20 years. It worked very well but was old and needed replacement. This new one is sturdier and a better design but it leaked at the hose connection. I took it apart and repaired the leak. So, 4 out of 5.

Just bought my second one. First one has lasted 8 years. Very durable. Excellent product for anyone who is tight on space.

Internal hose kinks restricted water flow

Finally I got to put this product to first use today, but it was disappointing due to the flow rate. I had to disassemble the hose reel box to discover multiple internal hose kinks causing this. Finally, as of writing, I wasn't able to disassemble the internal 2 halves of the wheel cores in order to cut off the kink (see 3rd photo) that is connected to the flow redirection axle pipe. I paid premium price for the Gardena brand hose box thinking it will be a straightforward experience. Ended up wasting time and efforts trying to fix the problem but unable to do so. If only I can figure out a way to disassemble the wheel core which is made up of 2 halves.

Portable hose

I bought this hose to store for the future when my present "same model" hose begins to give me problems. I haven't always found it easy to find this particular hose on Amazon. I have had my present hose since 2016. There appeared to be a few problems while my husband was using it in the past. Now that I have taken over the watering duties, I have had no concerns. It is used to water all the plants in our backyard. A gentler user will find that it gives many years of service

I thought Gardena stood for quality

The very first time I used it the line crimped due to the poor quality of the hose, I have now used it a total of 5 times and now there is a second crimp developing . I had really hoped for far more from Gardena.

Cheap rubbish

After a few uses the hose came out of the internal connect which was held on by a cheap clip. I am unable to access the internal connector to attach the hose.
