i sell automotive fasteners and fittings. one of our services, we make harnesses, and electrical switching for the car/truck or industrial applications. I searched many different "boxes" to house relays, for custom applications. I was able to place the relay in the box, and have room for the wiring to stay in place and mount the relay almost perfect in the space. due to the type of castings, I wouldn't apply medium or higher pressure, so the box doesn't crack or collapse beating on it. slow drilling with a sharp bit, was all it took to make holes I needed. the best part, it didn't take much to do a simple polish on it. yeah, I could have sanded out the swirls in the casting, but I am trying to keep the price I am selling it for. I don't know about other applications, but I will tell you this wouldn't be a good box for pedals on it. the lid will cave-in under use. used in just protecting a device or switch, it will do great. I will be buying more

Ok if you're looking for a box to put electronics inside

Its on as an electronics project box. Its higher quality than most project boxes. That's not saying much. Waterproof gasket takes some effort to install properly. The aluminum alloy is something I'm not familiar with. Its not your typical cold rolled 6061/6065 though I wish it was. Its more brittle and less impact resistant than the aforementioned alloys. Maybe 7000/8000 series or perhaps just a byproduct of the extrusion.

Clean casting and tougher than its light weight implies

I used this to house a battery disconnect switch on an engine project that I have. I had to drill a number of holes in it to accommodate the cabling. I was happy to see how resilient the material was as I drilled and filed it to the shapes I needed.

An industry standard for hobbyists and professionals

These are cast aluminum enclosures for housing small electronic circuits -- pretty much an industry standard for hobbyists and professionals (I'm both) alike. The price was right and shipping was fast. Unlike a couple of electronics distributors, there was no massive shipping change to get these in two days (I have Amazon Prime). I ordered these to house a couple of impedance-matching baluns I'm building.

BUD is the best. I think they are still American made. A fine product. The siddes are designed to slope in a bit, so order a bit large.
