So far so good
Well make sure you have a toothpick because other tools I tried in the RST (reset) didn’t work. I could feel the button being pressed but it wasn’t far enough initialize the display. I was able to easily program the start and stop times so now comes the waiting to see if it performs. I will update next Monday as the events are during the weekend.

Dead on Arrival - then it worked - and has continued doing so.
My mistake is that when it arrived I was talking with a friend, opened it, threw away the packaging and didn't try plugging it in right away to confirm it worked. I laid it aside and didn't try to program it until 2 days later. The timer did not come on, but it did get very warm. Warm enough that I would be uncomfortable using if it got that warm all the time without having any devices plugged in. So I wasted my money by throwing away the packaging (totally my mistake) and should have come back and read the reviews (I had put this in my cart some time ago). Disappointing waste of money for a device that is completely dead. I will try to return, but I doubt they will take it back. Update 05/21/14: After checking on Amazon's return (only with original packaging) I didn't even try to send this back. However, I had laid it down on the counter and it was knocked off by one of the cats onto a tile floor. I always have hope that any electrical device will forget it's broken and plugged it in. I had pressed the reset button the first time when it arrived DOA, but got nothing. This time however, it did come on (to be fair, it's possible I may not have held the reset button in long enough the first time). Anyway, it came on, I programmed it and tried it out last night. At this point, I can only change it to two stars, as I don't like how warm the device gets. I have another timer (not heavy duty) from APC that allows four things to be plugged in with a timer that controls all four and it doesn't get warm at all. Perhaps I'm being silly but a device that is plugged in and operating all the time makes me nervous when it's quite warm to the touch. And perhaps it being a heavy duty timer has something to do with it. So at this time, I'm still unsure of whether I will continue to use or not. If you own one and yours does or does not get warm, please leave feedback. It might help others. Thanks and good luck with whatever you choose to buy! Update 02/05/15: I've had plenty of time to use this device. I only have some colored rope & led lights hooked into it - so nothing that uses a lot of electricity. The device still works, I've had no issues with it, I still don't like how warm it gets. I upgraded it to four stars since I've had no other problems & it works. I have another device that does a similar thing and it does not get warm (it's also easier to work manually). That one also holds more devices - though this one is more programmable - so what type you get will depend on your needs. I think both are handy to have for certain items and when you go out of town. I still wish I could find one that had multiple ports and you could program each port in a different way (some on all the time and some turn on at a certain time). So far, I haven't found something like that - so maybe it's simply not feasible.

This is a really great product and would be especially useful if you stay up later on the weekend and need to have your lamps turn off at a later time than during weekdays. I originally thought I would need that feature, which is why I bought two of these instead of the basic outlet timers by the same company (I already had two of those) but turns out I'm not really utilizing that feature but I see how this could be very useful to other people. It has a programmable setting that allows you to set different on-off times for your plugged in device on many different variation of days. For example, you can set it to go on-off at a certain time on weekdays vs weekends, or alternate days, or you can set each day individually. It has a separate time setting for when you want it to turn on and when you want it to turn off for each individual day or variation of days. Just like the basic outlet timer, it allows you to set it in on, off or auto mode. In "on" mode the lamps or whatever you hook it up to will always stay on, in "off" mode they will always stay off, and it "Auto" mode it will default to the programming you have set up. For people having issues, remember this works just like an on-off switch and cannot retroactively turn on a device for an earlier time than when you program it. So if it's 9 pm and you've set it to turn on at 7 pm, it will not turn on until the next day at 7 pm because the switch has to be activated at that time. The only reason I docked down 1 star is the lack of a plus and minus button for changing the hour and minute. This has become a serious pain in the butt, especially with daylight savings and the days getting darker earlier. In order to change the time to an earlier hour (and yes I know there is a daylight savings button and no, I haven't tried it because I've no idea what it actually does and I'm afraid of it messing up the carefully set up time I have right now), I have to click the hour button 23 times because there is no way to change it backwards and it is a seriously tedious and unnecessary task, circumvented by adding a plus and minus button like for the basic model. Another minor issue is the fact that I cannot set weekend times for Friday & Saturday together. It allows for setting Saturday and Sunday together, just not the other. This is another serious pain in the butt because I end up having to set each day separately just so I can set those two days to turn off one hour later than on weekdays. However, setting those problems aside it works great and if you need to hook up more than one lamp just get a cheap splitter from Walmart and you are good to go! We've had them for about 5 months and love having our lamps automated, and although it probably doesn't save a ton of electricity, it does save some which helps the environment as well!

Works. Easy to use.
I already have an older model of this, and it works very similarly. I like that there is a slot for the instructions, bc I've long since lost the instructions for my other one and always have to look them up. I tested the timer out for a couple weeks, and my lights came on when they were set to. This will be a reliable timer for our home.

Failure after a year of on and off use.
Purchased 4 units for various lighting applications. After 2 years of "on and off" use, 3 failed to work. No display and not operational. Took a unit apart and discovered that the on/off relay was not turning on. All other internal electronics was ok. If the on/off relay doesn't fire the unit up, the battery will not charge and the unit will not work. I think this is a design flaw. Having said that, I have purchased 2 more units to replace the defective ones as they are what I need. The older reports about failures are probably due to what I have said above. With the new units, I am leaving them plugged in all the time to see if this fixes the any failure problems over time.

Woods Timer
This woods timer works well and is user friendly, however the LED display seems to be a weak link. It fades over a period of time and then you can't read it and therefore programming becomes impossible.

Well designed
This is a really, really well designed product. Lots of different programs available, easy switch to Daylight Savings Time, micro-manual storable in a slot on the back of the timer, big flexibility in terms of time. The only thing you have to remmember is if you use the ON/OFF button for manual switching, it will keep it's ON/OFF setting when you change it to AUTO. So if it's timed to be off and you want to turn it off from manual ON, you have to switch to OFF first before going to AUTO. This is standard behavior in many timers.

Low quality
I bought two woods timers in both cases the Batteries did not change after hours. Does not work. Woods is very a low quality brand. Avoid. Total waste of time and money.
