Great customer service

Couldn’t figure out why it didn’t work. They sent new one before I returned it. Turned out I wasn’t screwing tumbler into base tight enough. Cool safety feature, but not immune to user error (my fault)!

The Fix that works every time

Forget about all arrows, just follow RobinD’s comment and your cup will be 100% successfully detected. Forget about YouTube videos, I tried all of them and none works! As soon as I found RobinD’s review, I am relieved. Below is how mine works: Tighten the lid, do not care about the arrows they are almost impossible to find. Make sure you tighten it up so speed 10 would not break the lid. Put the cup on the machine. It would not be detected. Then add a little twist (on the tightening direction) on the cup with it still on the base. Just a tiny little bit twist and it will be detected! It’s that easy! Below is my review of the blender itself: 1. It works better when the smoothie is on the thinner side. 2. It needs more ice to keep your smoothie cold. If no ice, your smoothie will be on the warm side. The size of the container is too small that it heats itself up during the blending process. This is my main complain so far. 3. The blending power is not as good as the jar but I am OK with it. No problem for frozen fruits, Kales, seeds and nuts. Just don’t pack it too full or you need to manually adjust all items later. I bought this bcs I only need a single serving and don’t like to store smoothie. In my view, this is still more convenient than a 48oz jar. I was never satisfied with the 64 oz comes with the machine. 4. Again, now that we are not using all arrows here, be sure to tighten the lid to a degree it won’t break during the blending. I found this is by far the most mentally challenging and tricky part in the process. Pros: Convenient, easy to clean. No better choice for a single serve if you don’t want to wash a jar! I kind of hoping I would have bought blendtec given the performance of cup. :( Although I can line up the cup, I still find it’s not as easy as I would have expected, and not as good as blendtec go cup. (Based on their amazon review) Update: I gradually figured out more good sides of the 8oz smaller cup but I will summarize reviews here. I started to use the small cup to bring dry dog kibble to smaller pieces for my puppy, when I finally got to see its incredible work with dry foods. The large kibbles sized down evenly to smaller pieces without getting to powders. I also own other blenders (yes I bought cheaper ones to blend my yogurt as I’m still not comfortable with arrows) and non produced the same results. All other blenders leaves half kibble to powders and the rest big sized pieces. Another update on those arrows - I screwed the cup too tight one time and cannot open it. Called customer service and still cannot open it with the help. They ended up sending me a new base and cup as replacement. The shipment speed was incredibly quick- I called on Tuesday and received the cup on Friday. I believe they picked 2-day ship. The customer service experience is top notch and super effective, especially given it’s black Friday week. I would rank the customer care top, along with Nespresso machine/ amex cards. Remember do not screw it too tight or too lose!!!

Works great if you have reasonable expectations.

If you have the right use case and expectations this cup works great. I use it for smoothies as I wanted better portion control for my daily posi #IF smoothies. The cup is smaller and narrower. So the order of ingredients is important. If you over stack the cup, you will need to stop blending, and give it a few shakes to ensure everything is incorporated. People buy this tall and narrow cup assuming it will blend as amazingly as a large wide vitamix container. I too wish that was the case, but that simply isnt possible. I would rather shake the cup once or twice, and be able to put in into my bag, or cup holder than have it big just a mini version of the vitamix container with no portability. With that said, please do know that this is not a cup you can load up with tons of stuff, add very little liquid and expect it the vitamix up a wonderful concoction. For portability, and portion control and consistency this cup is very useful. Also of note, i ordered this cup and lid, for use with the blending base I had from my purchase of the vitamix blending bowls and base. This product is simply a cup and lid.

Good replacement

I bought this to replace an old blending cup that had started to crack. The new one works as expected. A word of advice: Don't plan on this lasting forever. The Vitamix warranty is 3 years. Our last one was probably 4 years old and had to be replaced. The material around the SELF-DETECT® parts had cracked and was rusting. These should last a lot longer -- it's a piece of plastic with some magnets in the rim. In my opinion, the entire Ascent series did not improve on the classic Next Generation line. This product really only deserves two stars for the disappointing lifespan. However, what I received is exactly as described -- but no more. If you are looking for a replacement cup, this is very good. But if you are looking for a Vitamix blender, don't go with the Ascent series. Our previous Vitamix, a Next Generation (legacy series, something like the 7500) was way better. Real buttons, smooth running, and much quieter.

Not a fan

I love the Vitamix itself but the blending cup can be a nightmare. We had a friend over for dinner and we passed the cup and lid around the table to see who could actually get the cup to screw/attach to the lid or blender attachment and everyone agreed that it was taking days off our lives with the amount of stress it caused. We wanted to swear…a lot. Maybe destroy the cup in a very descriptive manner. In the end I decided I wasted my money on this. I even wanted to buy a second bullet blender to use for the ease of it.

Works great. No need to line up lid as others claim

I put off buying this for a long time because of the reviews about having to line up the lid or something, but I got tired of cleaning the big machine every time I wanted a smoothie, so I gave this a try. I have never needed to line any arrows up, I just tighten the lid and it works, every single time, just like it should. I have no idea what everyone else is stalking about. As others have said, it would be nice if it was 2-4 ounces bigger, but it work just fine for a normal protein smoothie with several ingredients. I have no complaints and wish I had bought it sooner.

Performs well

The blades on these cups are smaller than the blades on the jugs. They don't perform as good as the jugs but still do an okay job. If you are blending just for one person, then definitely get the blending cup as it's less hassle. Otherwise, just use the jug. The jug take down apple halves and large chunks of carrots and frozen fruits like a breeze. Don't expect the cup to do the same. I need to chop my apples, carrots or frozen fruits into small pieces else you might find large chunks even after blending for over a minute. I've also notice that the liquid gets warmer quicker in the cup than the jug - something to bear in mind. The mini blending bowls are very practical as well. You can easily make a very small quantity of dips, vinaigrette and chutney. They are quite pricey especially if you key in the original hefty price of your vitamix set but these will give more usage of vitamix. So far I haven't had any problems with the cups detection as many have complained except for the first time I tried. The trick is to match the 2 arrows then screw the blade base about one and a half rotation. One more thing, shop around. You can get better deal elsewhere. I could have saved $30 had I done that!

Perfect size for smoothies & home-made dressings.

Good quality as you would expect from Vitamix. Must ensure that lid is on tight enough for base unit to "sense" its presence.( when using with self-detect system) Easier to clean than jugs with the blades in bottom.

Love this blender attachment

I use this every day. It works great for making my morning smoothie. The trick is to make sure you use small frozen fruit like raspberries or chopped strawberries rather than whole ones so that it doesn't stick to the bottom of the jar. When you flip it upside it helps to shake the fruit down before placing on the base. When you place on the base you may need to tighten slightly by turning it on the base for the vitamix to recognize the blender. It took a few tries but now I have mastered it. The reviews that say this doesn't work need to be patient and they will learn the tricks to get it to work with no issues. I recommend.

Works well

This 20-ounce blending cup needs and adapter base. I bought the 8 ounce cups with the adapter base which will also work with the 20-ounce cup. It fine for individual smoothies but cannot be used for any hot liquids or blending continuously for more than 75 seconds which would allow the liquid to become hot. The container may explode as a result since there is not a way of venting any steam which could be created.
