Not a bad way to add some additional protection to ordinary workboots.
First of all, there is no substitute for actual met-guard boots. They're properly designed and tested, so if you work in an environment which requires ANSI-rated met-guard boots, this isn't the way to do this. I work in a facility that requires electrical rating in our boots, and the overlap between electrical and met-guard is pretty thin, so I was looking for a way to add some extra protection to the boots I have to wear. They fit a little loose. The main technique for attaching them is to run the laces through a set of holes in the lower piece, and then close the strap on the upper piece around another pair of laces further up. I hated dealing with them on my 6" boots, because I had to snap and unsnap the top piece every time I took my boots on and off, but my 8" boots are tall enough that I can leave them permanently "set up." They still clack around a little, and occasionally get caught on things, but they seem to be doing their job of keeping slag from damaging the uppers and laces of the boots, and have helped keep heavy objects from hitting the tops of my feet, after I nearly broke my foot when a piece of 6" bar stock caught me behind the steel toe.

Somewhat aggravating
Kinda aggravating trying to put it on your boots. The top part gets in the way, so it's best to take apart, and then put onto the boots. If you are in a hurry and you don't get the shoestrings pulled extra tight, then the laces start working loose and the guard becomes loose, just too much aggravation.

It's only as good as what you expect out of it.
The first big thing I noticed about these protectors are that they basically thick, hard plastic. I think they are perhaps better for deflecting objects off them and down onto the boots you would be wearing (which I would presume would be steel-toed). I certainly wouldn't want them to take the brunt of a blow to my feet. The ridged designs in the plastic on the lower half of the protector, though, seem to suggest the designers don't want objects coming into contact with the protector to slide off onto the toes. I suppose they would be quite good for protecting from impacts of lighter objects but if you are like me where you work in an environment where objects can weigh hundreds to thousands of pounds, I doubt the strength of thick, hard plastic protectors to protect my metatarsals. I have noticed some people have made the complaint the middle hinge connecting the two pieces of the protector sometimes comes undone. This hasn't happened to me but it seems this is more a concern if your boots are fairly flexible (in the area underneath the protectors) and you haven't adequately secured the protector to your shoe laces. These protectors could be problematic for some people. The protectors are secured to the boot with the use of your shoelaces in only two places: at the very top and the very bottom. This is both a good and bad thing, as I have observed. This leaves the underside of the protector free-floating through the entirety of the middle section. This allows for some degree of flexibility of the laces and the boot which might be otherwise restricted, being suffocatingly bound to the protector. The downside is that the protector will move around in ways you do not intend and do not want unless you ensure your laces are quite tightly wound. What I don't like there is that when I have to tighten my laces too tightly, it constricts the movement of my feet in the boot (making for much sorer feet at the end of the day). This may or may not be an issue for you but it is something to consider when considering whether protectors like these are worth buying.

Odd fit
No matter how you lace it, the bottom pops up like a duck bill

I couldn't ask for more except ONE thing! ONE SMALL THING
The design and everything, including the trade offs, the compromises, the construction, is all really well balanced and excellent. They never fail to protect me and I use them everyday, never go to work without them, going on 3 years now. What I HATE are the damn buttons and straps. GOOD SOLID DESIGN. Their durability is awful. Never had a button last less time. They literally break and seperate, because the snap is TOO STRONG!! WHICH IS GREAT THEY NEVER COME OFF! Except when the button made of chinesium breaks every 2 months of real work. Please fix this 1 thing and I will praise and love you forever. Thanks so much, NH.

It's effective as long as you don't drop more than 100lbs on your feet.
The most difficult thing about this product is figuring out the most efficient way to attach it to your shoes without having to buy longer shoe strings. I use it for steel toe shoes, not boots. It hasn't gotten in the way of anything as far as tripping you up, and I've dropped things on them without having an impact thus far. I work with heavy materials and wanted something to cover the rest of my foot, in addition to the steel toe.

Very happy with these
I like how easy they were to install on my boots, I have lace up boots. Everyone at work has been asking me where I got them.

Bit pricey
They do the job, but to be fair seem somewhat overpriced.

Fits my boots nicely, although does catch a bit.
Make sure your boots are smooth on the toe or it will catch. Still works for what I need them for. Easily removable as well which is nice.

False advertising.
The advertised product said 100% metal, the product I received was 100% plastic. These won't be fit for purpose as welding sparks will simply destroy them.
