Very thin, fragile finish

We had previously bought four Simpli Home pieces in a different line (the Artisan series), and we were quite pleased with them, especially the construction and ease of assembly (if you have some experience with basic hand tools). The construction of the Amherst pieces was equally good (the hardware was high quality with no missing parts, the holes all lined up, etc), but the finish seems to be very thin and fragile. For instance, we dropped a small plastic level from a short distance onto the top of one piece while putting up some wall art, and it removed enough of the finish to leave a thin whitish mark, probably because the bare pine wood is showing through. I was tempted to put a few coats of polyurethane on the tops before they get more damage, but I was afraid it wouldn't be compatible with the current finish. If anyone has tried to put on a protective coating, please post the results. I wish the manufacturer realized that we would be willing to pay a bit more if they would make the finish more durable. These pieces will not stand up to normal wear. For anyone who has done finishing of bare woods with stain covered by a clear protective coating: it appears that the color on these pieces doesn't penetrate the wood at all, but instead is part of a single thin coating. This means that any damage to the finish removes all the color. Also, since the color is a very dark brown, the finish is very opaque and you can't see much grain through it. You don't don't get much of a "real wood" look. I agree with others who say that it would be very difficult to pack these pieces back up for return. To be fair, this is mostly because they are very well padded and wrapped with many pieces of foam to protect them during shipping.

Simplihome furniture is great!

This is another fine piece from Simplihome - assembly was particularly easy for this one and everything fits together with no issue. In general, the manufacturer is a great value for the money with high-quality drawer sliders. Very happy with this piece.

Beautiful piece but terrible customer service

I purchased two of these bedside tables. They are heavy and solid, and have a beautiful design. I changed the hardware knobs to matte gold oval rings and they look amazing against the dark brown wood. But, the drawers are horrible to slide into their compartments. It took my husband may tries to finally seat the drawer on one of the tables and he was not able to get the drawer on the other table to insert at all. I phoned SimpliHome and initially had a good response, both by phone and by email, so we were off to a good start. But after I sent the photos requested, they weren't responding. It turned out that they said the photos weren't helpful enough (they were good shots of the sliding mechanism that they needed to see). Ultimately almost 3 weeks went by with a number of inquiries what was going on and I was told that their " quality team" wasn't getting back to them and to be patient. I gave up. Amazon will let us return the broken one, which will be a feat to box up. I have ordered a new one and am hoping I don't have the same problem.

Looks cheap

There is a gap between the drawer fronts that looks off and screws from the back panel split visible portions of bottom shelf. Low quality materials make it look cheap and function in a flimsy manner.

Probably would be better to go to the furniture store.

Most parts are sturdy, but bottom of drawers and back of the table made of very cheap thin material. Also I was surprised to learn that I was going to need to assemble this. Assembly was not horrible, but not easy either. One of the drawers sticks when you try to pull it out.

Product drawers will not open or when you finally get it open, both come open. Poor quality
