Relatively Expensive But a Lot Less Expensive than a Failed Flare
I was a beginner installing a mini-split AC. My biggest area of discomfort was potential leakage in the connector lines between the the inside and outside units. In addition, I needed to shorten the factory 16' lines to 10', so rather than relying on the factory flares, I had to do my own cuts and flares on the 1/4" liquid high pressure line and 3/8" low pressure gas line. The common practice is to use the relatively inexpensive Nylog, which is a good product. However, the R410a refrigerant system on my mini-split runs at fairly high pressures and I did not want to have to hire an AC technician and replace lost refrigerant if something went wrong. I was very careful with my flares and used a torque wrench to get the specified torque. I asked Rectorseal support whether I should use Nylog with these fittings and was told that while it would likely not cause a problem, it was totally unnecessary because the fittings are coated with Locktite Vibra-seal. The assembly directions specify placing the auxiliary seal on the male fitting before joining it to the female flare. I found that with two of the seals, it did not want to stay in place. I slightly bent the tabs of the Flaretite seal with my fingers so it would grip the male fitting and make assembly possible. I saw from the Rectorseal website that these auxiliary seals have been used in a wide variety of critical industrial applications for quite a long period of time, so I feel very comfortable with the product and regard the $20 price as a very reasonable insurance policy. I see there are a couple of comparable products (FlareSeal and Flaremate) that appear to work the same way. Those two products seem to be targeted to mini-split AC's, while the Rectorseal product seems to serve a much larger industrial market as well.

This is the one with 2 1/4” and 2 3/8” seals
The picture in the product and the description that says Quantity 1 made me question if I was ordering the correct kit to use with my mini split. This has 2x 1/4” seals and 2x 3/8” seals which is exactly what I needed for my install.

Worked on a power steering leak.
This product worked great on a power steering leak that I had. Wasn't sure if it would but very pleased so far. Time will tell how it holds up.
