Small piece broke off so had to buy a new one - but works well

Well functioning string. It is able to pull close our heavier fence gate. Unfortunately, a small piece broke off so we had to buy another one. Here's to hoping the second one lasts.

Install carefully

Pay attention to the winding of the spring and the handedness of your gate. They need to be in the same direction or else tightening the spring will result in the gate swinging more loosely (while this may seem obvious, I messed up because the instructions on the package are for a left-handed gate, and I installed mine on a right-handed gate). Also, I highly recommend using your own screws. If not, you will need a Torx screwdriver to install the included ones (others have mentioned this). Even if you have the correct screw driver, the screws stripped very easily. For re-installation, I had to cut out the stripped screws and replaced them with my own Phillips wood screws, which worked much better. Also, the stopper nub is super easy to lose, so be careful.

Use Youtube to install.

EXTREMELY poor instructions. I had an experienced handyman assist me, but the paper instructions Step 1.were so poor even he couldn't figure them out. So much for ten minute installation! Step 2.We pulled up instructions online for help only to find they repeated the paper ones! Step 3 was utube which was helpful in installing. It really is a great device and we love it. If I had installed it by myself using these instructions I would have totally messed it up. Thankfully, my friend had seen one that was already installed correctly and we used that as a guide.

Does the job, but needs modification ... in some cases.

Ok, first the good. The product does exactly what it says it does. I used this on a wooden deck gate that is ~3' tall by 5' wide. It is a moderately heavy gate. The device holds the gate closed perfectly (so our dogs will quit getting out so often!). Previously, the gate would bounce open off the latch and our dogs would then go roam the neighborhood :). The bad: The gate is held by a 4x4 post. Screwing the device to this part was not a problem; however, the gate is made with a 2x4 frame giving only around a 1.75" surface to attach the device to. Had to screw the device in with a little bit of angle to the screws, but again, this wasn't a problem. Worked great. What didn't work great was the key to hold the spring. The key would NOT stay in the key hole to hold the spring tension when I put it in the proper direction. The reason was that it would pry itself out a little at a time as the gate closed. This was exasperated by the key laying over the edge of the mounting bracket which tended to help pull the key out. To resolve the problem, I ground down the fat end (the one that SHOULD go into the hole). I put the key in backwards, and ground it down to a length that would land entirely on the metal mounting area. This made sure the key stayed put and fixed the issue completely. Adjustment was easy, and it is relatively discrete being black the same as my hinges on my white gate.

So far, so good

Installed on iron gate and cinderblock wall

The media could not be loaded. Used self tapping screws for the iron gate and wall anchors for the cinderblock. They seem sturdy. The spring doesn't seem like it's built for the long haul. We'll see how long it lasts.

Works well with a couple of design tweaks...

After some tweaks this product worked beautiful and keeps my backyard gate auto-closed which is required by code due to having a pool. It is not complicate to install but does require a bit of strength and I recommend using thick protective gloves and protective glasses. I had to turn it considerably so it was able to close my gate, then during testing opening and closing the gate the pin snapped and came flying toward my face twice, the holes are in my opinion too big for the pins provided so the can come out easily. I fixed it by making a dent in the body using a grinder (you could also use a small file) so the pin can go in the dent and then securing it with an extra screw, this ended working quite well, there is no way that pin is coming getting out of there now making this a lot safer to use... strongly recommend doing this to everyone...

Great product!

Wish I knew this existed two years ago. This is just what I needed for my wooden gate. Installation was a breeze as I am familiar with the tightening mechanism. I recommend watching a video on how to install it's very easy, and like some of the reviews recommend, wear eye protection if you're not familiar with installation. I like that you can adjust tightness to alter saying speed. I definitely recommend. Wish I saw this year's ago.

Add epoxy to tension “nub”

It installs and functions as described however if on a heavy wrought iron gate, it can shut and shake loose the tensioning nub. Best find a way of gluing it in!

Easy to install and use.

Works really well on a a large 4'×8' heavy cedar fence panel gate. One full turn on the spring and the gate rockets closed. 1/4 turn was a lot gentler and successfully closes the gate every time. **hint*** Put a screw in front of the spring set pin to prevent it from falling out.

Worked - Was not very clear but once installed it became apparent

Better instructions would have been better. Worked, to create the spring effect and automatically closes the fence gate. Our gate was a little weird in location but it still worked.
