Best sturdy sole but needs inside heel support.
Extremely well made. Bought based on a reviewer saying her old ones were long term, the best. A bit large, even for my wide, high instep foot. For reference, I am normally a women's 9.5 wide & often have to size up to a 10 to make it work, if it is a narrow or normal width. But then it's usually too long. These womens10/mens9 felt very roomy on me with lots of space all around the foot. Plenty of room for heavy socks. The sole on these Hoser boots is substantially better than any others I've looked at in multiple brands. Twice as thick, sturdy deeper grooves & covers around the sides & toe a bit. I imagine these wld be the go to boots for outdoor muck work needs & feel like they wld last much longer than competitor boots I tried on at the same time for comparison. The neoprene shaft fits like a comfortable glove with no digging in at the rim like the classic womens mid calf bogs boot I tried at the same time (w/my large 17 in. calf). The only problem I found is the heel is very low to the ground making the toe end lift up slightly, but awkwardly & strains the foot/calf muscles eventually. And the heel seems to encourage slight rolling sideways- or outward (like twisting your ankle) making walking in them feel unstable for me. Adding a foot structure of some form (even if just inside the heel) wld make these perfect. The classic bogs style mentioned above actually provided better foot support with a slightly elevated inside heel support making for a more natural feeling step, though that sole is probably half as thick as this Hoser one. I'm finding unisex cut sizing (or men's alone) in these style boots seem to be much roomier in the foot area compared to the same size in womens size only. So may be good to size down or keep in mind when ordering (from women's to unisex/men's cut sizing). Wish they made half sizes! For comparison, the women's size 9 Arctic Weekend Muckbooks fit me like a supportive foot glove all around. Similar to an orthotic walking shoe feel. (Too snug for me but hoping the 10 work.) The heel is more elevated than a typical work mucking boot but perfect for commuter, suburban/city type living for snow, slush, cold & rain. I find the Artic weekend most comfortable to walk in. All three of these boots have more space around the heel than expected (side to side) so heel lifts out a bit for each step. Don't yet know long term if this might be a problem. There is a helpful cloth loop on the back to help pull the boot on. Unique from other boots I tried, it has a gray light reflective material stripe on it...but it's also sewn forcing it down into the boot instead of up, pointing toward the top...so completely irrelevant for this purpose anyway, as it can't reflect light while hidden in the boot. Don't know if this was on purpose or a defect but it doesn't make much sense.

GREAT Boot, very limited lifespan though.
First off...I love these boots! As a farmer, I wear these every day in fall, winter and spring, and a little less frequently in the summer. These are tough boots, they remain waterproof and are comfortable enough to wear all day long. However....I am on my 7th pair of boots in less than ten years.....and they all wear out in the exact same spot. There seems to be a flaw on the back of the heel right where the achilles heel is....every single boot I have has worn through in this spot on the inside causing bloody heels. I have contacted the company several times and they have suggested ordering a size down (nope...made it worse and wore through faster), ordering a size up (nope, way to much movement and heel rubbing even before the lining started to wear), wearing thicker socks, thinner sockers, 2 pair of socks, etc.... Nope, nope and nope....still the heels wore through. My most recent pair was purchased in Spring 2017 and now by Fall 2018 they are shot. Will I buy another pair....yes...my lifestyle depends on them, but I certainly wish the company would fix this obvious flaw. Just search for "Original Muck Boot +heel rub" to see for yourself.

Tall, not mid-height, and not flexible
I have had a Muck "Muckmaster" boot for a while and it is a great boot. I'm a big Muck fan, so I will give it 5 stars. However, the "Hoser" is almost as tall, within an 1", although I thought it was more of a mid-calf boot. Also it is very inflexible at the ankle. It would probably break-in, but it has a line of vertical reinforcing along the top/front ankle joint. This heavy stiffening makes walking a little Frankenstein like. Lastly, it has a deep lug sole that is better for wet surfaces than mud, which will be harder to wash out. (The Muckmaster, for example, has a good tread, but a somewhat smoother one, which makes it easier to wash out sticky clay soil.) So pick your Muck boot carefully!

My favorite summer boots.
I have the Muck Arctic Sport mid and the Jobber ankle cut and they both fit my foot PERFECTLY. I am a 10.5 wide so I buy 11D men's which is the closest available. These seemed narrow and squeezed my foot the first time I put them on. But after a few hours wearing them, they are very comfortable after all. I can wear them all day in wet weather. I live in Alaska and they are warm enough for spring and fall, yet not too warm in summer. This mid size are easy to step into without having to hold them up with one hand. The only thing you have to be careful of is the heel. It is pretty smooth. I have slipped and fell a few times going downhill on wet soil. Right on my bottom. The entire sole is rather soft so If you do a lot of hilly hiking over rocks or roots I'd probably recommend a boot with a more aggressive sole. A big plus of this model is the light weight, which doesn't tire you out like a heavy boot. These are like waterproof tennis shoes. Very nice.

Muck Mid Boots
I've been a MuckBoot user for the past six years now and couldn't be happier with my experience. My initial MuckBoot purchase was the Hoser style low top boot. These work fine as long as the grass and weeds aren't too tall and your trousers aren't too long. My original purchase has been in use for over six years and the boots are used constantly during the long Oregon winters. More recently I bought a pair of the Hoser Mid Boot and couldn't be happier. The big difference is that I can tuck my trouser legs into the top of the mid boot if I'm going into wet terrain and it keeps the lower part of my trouser legs dry. The mid calf style is just the right length as it is not too long to be cumbersom or too short that my legs get wet. The boots also have just enough insulation that with a good pair of socks my feet stay warm. Just a note; if your feet get cold easily buy your Mucks one size larger and put on a nice pair of wool socks or two pair of thinner socks.

best boots out there
comfortable like walking on clouds, durable, and warm. only a sport sock necessary. i wear these every day all winter working outdoors on the west coast and they have made life much easier. i spent an extra 50$ and bought dakota boot dryers for them tho because they do get damp inside from your feet being so warm and cosy all day.

Get these boots! They are great, comfortable and durable (also warm but in the summer are nicely vented). Ive had these for nearly a year now after switching from Hunters. I wear them daily to walk my dog through some tough terrain. I'm thinking of getting the full length ones for the winter.
