Works great. Can use the switch to turn outlet on & off (READ)

I'm using it to turn its outlet on/off. I followed the advice of RG down in the Q&A. For some reason this isn't on the install sheet: "Run your LINE into the brass screw that they are calling the LOAD and tighten both black screws to get them out of the way. Neutral goes to the silver screw, as always." You'll also install the ground wire to the green screw. No braking off the fin, no jumper wires...works perfect.

Color is Black. It's a switch and a plug. Works without issue. Not sure what else to say. The black is a glossy black; very plastic-y looking. But feels like a regular white/beige plug.

Quality Combo Switch Amazon ROCKS Again

Hard to find locally in big box stores. Amazon once again amazes me with next day delivery. I installed this to replace a 20a outlet for my wife’s washing machine. To make the lower outlet switchable you must remove the “break-off-fin” located between the black screws and run a short jumper wire between the A1 screw and lower black screw. Out of habit and safety my wife was unplugging the machine and turning off the water to the washer anytime when it wasn’t in use or anytime when we would leave the house overnight. When it was plugged back it the plug would spark. Now with this switched outlet she can just throw the switch when the washer isn’t in use and not worry about plugging and unplugging with sparks. EDIT: 9 months later it’s going strong. My wife loves it so much that I just ordered another to install on the washer outlet at our vacation cabin.

versatile solution

solved a problem I had where i needed a plug and switch in the same opening. Switch can operate independent of the plug or control the plug depending on how you wire it.

I waited, but...

I wanted to use this unit for awhile before I wrote a review. Leviton is a well known company, but that doesn't mean any given product will be up to their reputation. I found this one to be well built and it has functioned well. Other than the color, it's exactly what I wanted and works as I desired. It allowed me to avoid 2 parts, a switch and outlet.

Wiring diagrams don't cover everything.

I intended to use this as a switched outlet, but all the wiring diagrams included with the outlet were for switched lights and an always on outlet. The description of the product did not make this clear. Fortunately, some of the Amazon reviews saved me a lot of time in figuring out a solution to this. Now it works great, but the manufacturer could have saved me some time by providing a wiring diagram for my intended use.
