Unlock the Fun

While some Unlock! games are stronger than others, Heroic Adventures offers a solid selection of challenging and entertaining adventures that are well worth the investment. Whether you're a seasoned escape room fan or new to the genre, Unlock! Heroic Adventures is sure to impress.

AR Update to Unlock Escape Room Games

No spoilers: I own many of the Space Cowboy's Unlock Escape Room games. This is my first time buying all three in one of their series at a time. If you've ever played them before, feel free to skip down to the next paragraph for new things I noticed in the Heroic Adventures version. If you've never played them before, continue reading. There are 3 different decks in this game ranging from one lock (easiest, but really not easy) to 3 locks (hardest.....I have yet to really play it but even the instructions for this one were hard). The games have a tutorial to play beforehand. You should know that you have to have a smart phone or tablet to download the app that is REQUIRED to play these games. It's not optional because the app tells you which moves to make as you figure things out that you have no other way of knowing. If you've played any of the Unlock games before, you're familiar with the app experience. In the Heroic Adventures, the company has added AR (augmented reality) features to some of the cards which you use your phone and the same app to access. These are nifty interesting features but be careful. The card you're using needs to be in good light without glare on it for the camera of your phone to recognize it correctly. This itself took many precious minutes to get right during the course of the game because everything needed to be EXACTLY correct for the phone to register it (but maybe that's more a fault of my iPhone's camera?). Overall, these games seem much more difficult than others I've played from the same makers, but are just as good. If you've enjoyed others by this brand, I would definitely recommend getting these games. If you haven't tried any by them before, I would suggest trying different versions first then coming back to Heroic Adventures if you liked the other ones you've played.

Perfect way to spend time with roommates during The Isolation

Three terrific games. It should be noted that two are an hour long and the third, and most difficult, is an hour and a half. Reading other reviews for this I have to assume that many people just didn’t get the clues, because every time we got a hint we felt silly for having missed the clues in the first place. There is a lot of outside of the box thinking required and it’s good to have people playing who all think about things from a different viewpoint. The AR features included through the free app added a lot of extra fun, and I appreciated not having to pull out a magnifying glass to find some of the hidden clues, as I have had to do in other Unlock games. Be warned that the Alice adventure requires a lot of lateral thinking and the final puzzle took us almost as long as the entire rest of the game to crack.

Mostly A Lot of Fun

I really enjoyed the first two games (Sherlock and the video game one). The puzzles where nice, and when we got stuck, the hints where helpful. With the Alice one, some hints created confusion (leading to skipping key cards and jumping ahead), and at least one of the puzzles made very little sense. Overall, it was worth it for the first two games we played in the pack, and I'll get a another box set. However, I don't know if the games will have a high replay value, so will likely pass them on to someone else to try.

Lots of fun and challenging

Bought it for a friend after I forgot his birthday. He said it was extremely fun. It is a bit of a 1 time use game would be nice if we could trade them in for a small fee

This very quickly became a favorite.

So I've played Gloomhaven, Scythe, Terraforming Mars, Seven Wonders Duel, TIME Stories, etc. My friends and I try to buy from the "Top 100" list on Boardgamegeek. This is just a credential rant. I bought this box after looking into Unlock and EXIT, and decided to give it a whirl. Well, I was blown away. You have to download an app, which I was kind of miffed about but it's totally worth it. They include a small tutorial game too, which is just smart. All of the game options in here are just flat out clever. I'm surprised I'm the first review. I recommend it for friends, family, anybody really. There's an hour time limit so it's nice to have a thinking game that doesn't require a three hour session. Also: The game play is easy, but the thinking is complex. Note: I've also played "EXIT", a similar game type. Also good.

Fun, but kind of hard

We enjoyed playing the first game of this series; however, if you have never played an escape room game before (and we hadn't) it's not like other games. It was hard to find some of the answers to the clues. We had to use the online help which, was sadly, only available in French. Therefore, we had to translate it which was a pain. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Going to buy more!

Love the unlock games! Cards were wrapped and in sequential order. Challenging and fun stories. This Triple pack doesn't need any of the previous expansions or scenarios to be able to play.

Loved this collection!

We are escape room nerds and played a few in a box, this offered the best adventures as far as I'm concerned. Great quality art, prints, offers AR content as well to solve some situations. Great variety! The Sherlock Holmes story made me feel the most engaged with what I feel were the best conceived puzzles. The only problem we had was with the easiest adventure (the videogame) on which we managed to skip ahead a couple steps and then the game wasn't making sense, we had to replay from the start to correct the mistake.

I’ve bought five of these boxes and this one is my favourite so far! Each of the three escape games are unique and use interesting mechanisms for their puzzles. Well done!
