Great interactive toy.
My granddaughter was 1 1/2 when I got it so I introduced a few pieces to her at first, so it would not be overwhelming. Now she plays with a few more

Clever, cute, but some effort is involved
My boys love to build and create so this has been a fun activity for both. The only thing is the pieces need a little elbow grease to put together to create something. So the adult supervision/interaction might still be needed. ????‍♀️ Lol The pieces are small some are even tiny so beware of little ones. The crank is super cool but it doesn’t move smoothly. It’s a little jerky so hopefully it doesn’t frustrate anybody when it kind of sticks or even comes off. It takes some learning and patience to figure out what goes where and that only certain pieces fit into each other but once my kids got it they really have started to have fun with it. I still have to assist with things but it’s a clever set that I would buy again as a gift for a slightly older child.

Fun with robot figures, but not enough connectors and crown gears to make elaborate designs
The media could not be loaded. As my son likes robots, I bought him this set and he seems to like it. He is nearly three and he can put the bases together and also put the gears on the bases. It's quite easy for him to do. But joining connectors are hard for him because the connectors are tight. But I can pull them apart easy enough. The whole set spins smoothly and is quite sturdy. I wish it comes with more connectors and crown gears (they are the gears with the long prongs) as they provide spinning motion on a different plane, and therefore allow for more elaborate designs. I would recommend also buying another set that has more crown gears to complement this one to build more complex designs. I made a robot, but only two crown gears are in the set so I can only build one spinning head and one spinning arm. But for young kids starting out, it's good enough.

We got this a few days ago and I cannot ...
We got this a few days ago and I cannot believe how much my 3.5 year old boy LOVES these things. On day 1, he played with them for at least 4 hours straight! He only stopped to go to the bathroom, nap and eat. And, every day since he wakes up and wants to play with them and when he gets home from school, it's all he wants to play with. He makes all sorts of different configurations of the boards and the gears and the robots, he builds up, he builds over, he tries different combinations every time. I had no idea that something so simple could be so captivating. I think this is the most focused he's ever been with anything. Not even a movie, a playground or ice cream can keep his attention this long. Thank you Learning Resources! We will buying all of the Gears collection over time to keep these peaceful times in our house.

Fun. Good to grow with.
Takes a little while to figure outs how the pieces fit together. The directions are picture only. My three year old is enjoying playing with putting the gears together. He will have quite a bit of time ahead of him to play with this.

This product gets the gears turning - literally and figuratively!
My 5 year old son is OBSESSED with this toy - OB-SESSED. He opened it up last night and immediately went to work putting it together. As he followed the directions closely, I could literally see the gears in his brain turning just like the ones he was assembling with this toy. We didn't have time to finish the design last night, and he literally came running into my room this morning asking if he could "go back to work building robots" before breakfast and heading out the door to school. Very rewarding to watch him play with this product. This is a winner for sure!

Fun for 4 yr old and 6 yr old
Boys loved this! You have to help them out the stickers on, which is no big deal. But they dont have the holes cut out so it blocks some connections. Also the stickers are cut all the way through the paper, making them fall out of the sheet and difficult to get the backing off.

Cost wise, not worth it
Paid too much for what it is, not sufficient amount of play pieces, holders and stickers should not count. Wouldn’t recommend

These are brilliant fun!
These are a hit in this house! We have had so much fun putting them together and everyone seems to enjoy doing different things. We bought these as a birthday present for my son who turned three, but our 7 and 9 year old children love them, as well. In fact, the whole family has been building crazy things, including us parents. :) They are pretty easy to put together, and as I said, my 3 year old has no problems fitting things except for a couple small pin parts (about 2 cm long) which I removed as I felt they were not safe for him. The parts are cheerful and satisfying to click together, and feel sturdy. My only "con" would be the price, which was a bit high for our budget, but we definitely are glad we got them. Highly recommended.

Good set with plenty of options for extended play either together or alone.
Well im waaaaaay too old for this set but as soon as it arrived it kept me entertained for ages! I have a few comments to make from my perspective but i promise i did pass it own to my nephews to play with to give it a proper review! The set needs some construction when you get it. There are stickers to be applied. The problem with the stickers is that there isnt a whole lot of clues as to where they have to be stuck and some of them have to be stuck over holes in the gears. I find this a bit odd, i mean supposing i stick the sticker over a hole i later need and why put a hole there if its not needed? I have OCD, these things perturb me. Im glad the set comes with a suggested set up that uses the whole set. The instructions arnt entirely correct but i worked it out by refering to the pictures. I dont think a smaller child would but they probably dont have my concerns about doing things 'correctly!' The set is recommended for ages 4 + but i suspect it may be a bit complicated for a 4 year old and they might get bored quickly. My nephews are slightly older and enjoyed playing with this. There are endless ways that the various parts can be attached together, creating all manner of gears and robot combinations. The pieces are solid and well made. I cant see the nephews breaking any bits off i suspect the stickers that are placed over holes will soon get poked through. Good set with plenty of options for extended play either together or alone. Nice bright sturdy pieces. Wouldnt have minded some more instructions on ways to fit all the pieces together. It would help smaller children.

A great set - lots to do and fun to play with!
My four year old daughter loved this set! I have not come across the Learning Resources range before, and think it is very well made. The parts are colourful and bright and a perfect size for little hands to hold and manipulate. The set contains lots of pieces - a mixture of 6 base boards, lots of cogs, connectors and building blocks, as well as 6 mini robots and many stickers! The stickers are quite fiddly and require an adult to help, but once applied, the set is ready to play with. I did find the instructions a little obscure to follow, and (being used to the excellent step by step instructions of Lego) not broken down into enough steps / detail. The idea is you can build different sets and the cogs interact in different ways. Having said that, my four year old got the most enjoyment out of just building her own sets and having fun with it that way - which is probably the most important aspect! I think the age range is perfect my four year old finds it a bit challenging, but not in an off-putting way. There is lots to this set and the robots are fun to play with too.
