**(11/20) update: After an issue with crystals and 3K later, I learned cats need wet food often to get moisture intake so no more dry food with wet food as the treat for going on the toilet. I did ask both vets to make sure it wasn't the toilet training that caused him the stress/blockage and both said it did not. He went back to litter box after the unblocking of the urethra and after two months, I started him again on the LK system. I would move him to the next step daily; quickly moving from red for 24 hours, then first orange for 24 hours then second orange for 24 hours, to first green for a week, second green for two weeks, the toilet seat is down over this last green to get him used to the slippery seat again and hardly any litter in tray. I am worried about his super furry feet.... Good thing is, I know he can easily and quickly relearn the system and since the system is quality, it can be reused; so when we move or anything, we have a way to go back and retrain. He will meow at me obnoxiously and I put him in the bathroom, lights off and then he will go - At night, he does it himself and most days I do not get the constant meow and me having to put him in the bathroom. There is still a bit of hesitation from him about using the toilet and he would prefer to use the garden. However, he gets extra wet food for using the toilet, so it is still motivating. This is still one of the biggest pains in the a....I have ever dealt with, but we will succeed. I will point out, that if we are clear of all LK pieces next month- it will be a full year of working on this. *Clean the toilet at least weekly to get off any smells they may not like. Good luck! We are still working on it, the forums are difficult to find let alone get help from them, these Amazon reviews have been most helpful. We began Dec (its March 21). Tips I unfortunately learned after I should have are- find a flush-able litter they like and make sure that litter has a backup in case your litter becomes out of stock :( during training. Find very special treats for their #1 and #2's. I ordered two books on cat toilet training as the DVD never worked and the forums are not very helpful. Order the multi cat system. There will be accidents, try not to loose it. I did rush him and had to start over, many, many, many times. Red- easy, it's a small litter box, on the floor, put a towel under if unstable, moving up to toilet easy (we had a small step stool for ease), moved to amber ring - #2 (poo) on floor, would go #1 in tray but always #2 on bathroom floor. Ordered multi cat system, had to go back to red, this time I stayed on red for a full month. Moved to amber multi, hesitation but worked, had a hotel stay and took him with the system, he actually did it there also #1 and #2, but ran out of litter and could not find his litter anywhere, the new litter was very different texture and he held everything for 3 days and in those days reverted to smaller amber ring, no go, reverted to red ring, no go, reverted to red on floor- no go. I finally found litter similar to the old kind, put in the new litter (similar to old, out of stock litter) had to revert back to red on the floor - no go! I was terrified for his health, ran to my closet, grabbed a shoe box and put the litter from red into tiny shoe box and he immediately went. Starting over for the third or fourth time with red on floor. We are on multi amber for the third time, I tried the cardboard, it did not help, he constantly pees on one foot, three feet are on the ring but one is always in the litter and thus wet, tracking and gross to him and myself. I put the toilet seat down over the kit and we will see if this will help... When moving discs, I did not feed him his wet food until he #2 in the disc, after a few times of doing well at this I give him his normal wet food of 2/3 cans day, but any transition to new discs will be no wet food until he goes in the right spot. Accidents, poo on the floor was always an issue, I did finally move his food dishes into bathroom and to take up space on bathroom floor. This did help, I just moved it out after a month to the hallway so he is not having to smell bad stuff when he eats. I never knew he pee'd outside the disc, until on day I found the spot, where he had been secret peeing..... I put objects over the spot now and the few times poo has been left outside the disc and or bathroom, I show him, say no and again withhold his wet food until he goes in the correct disc. Discs- I clean with plastic spoon and fork, I also bought a splatter shield from the dollar store to filter out the good and bad litter at least one a day, into a bowl for re-use as the flush-able litter is expensive. I use cleaning gloves and wash the disc itself once every few days, but did not need to clean it after every use as he showed me he will use it dirty when the red disc was on the floor. My issue is him going over the hole, he is a large Siberian forest cat, 9 months old and about 12 pounds we started this when he was 5.5 months old after neutering. I have ordered special treats for #1 and #2 that are different to motivate him, fish flakes or sticks that he only gets after the right release. I have had to close doors when transitioning discs to prevent accidents and or confusion. After I found the pee on carpet (secret spot), I told him No and cleaned it, then he went to the tray and #1- so he gets it, but after the litter mix up- I think it really confused him. It's okay to start over or go back... it's annoying as the owner but I am sticking to this. It is difficult to do this if you are not constantly home to clean the tray. We are all in lock-down now due to corvid-19, so I am taking more time to train him, I am hopeful that by the end of this he will be fully toilet trained. We have a bathroom to dedicate to him thankfully, it is messy with litter on floor and pee foot prints to clean up, but it can be done. I am not sure if he is just a baby still b/c of his breed, or slow to learn, but it is taking much longer than two months. I will update if I remember or have more information to share.
