Awesome product!

This oil and wax applicator for my BOOS butcher block is the best! It cut my total application time about 70% less and the look and finish on my butcher block looks awesome!! It is much much easier with the applicator and No comparison to how it looked before. Highly…Highly recommend this applicator….don’t even debate on it !!!!

A Bit Pricey

This is definitely a bit pricey for a product that you could probably replicate with much cheaper materials. That being said, it works well and is easy to store.

Easy to use cutting block oil applicator, allows for even and thin application

I used to apply my Boos Block Mystery Oil by pouring a bit on the surface then using my fingers to apply since most sponge applicators ended up absorbing the oil vs distributing it. This applicator’s sponge is made for oil distribution. The Pad This applicator’s pad is stiffer than regular sponges and has larger pores which helps distribute material evenly. It feels rough when first applying but avoid putting pressure and follow the grain to help it glide. I do wish the pad was removable/replaceable, it doesn’t look like it’s removable. It also comes with a pad plastic cover which most other alternatives do not have. This helps keep the pad clean. Cleaning I don’t wash this pad since I’m always using this after washing our Boos block. I simply put it back in the plastic cover after each use without washing. I’m not sure if the adhesive between the pad and wood puck would deteriorate over washes so I just avoid it all together. The Wood The applicator’s wood is high quality and has some heft to it, let the weight of the wood do the work, try not to add additional pressure as it’s not needed and may cause the applicator to wear out prematurely. The Spread A little oil goes a long way with this pad. I swirl the oil on the block first then run this applicator over it to spread. Works great. It’s a bit pricey but is a quality product.

Pricey but a good product

I looked at the two choices for this type of applicator. I was set to buy the one that is about half the price, but noticed a lot of reviews about how the pad part of the applicator was breaking into small pieces. The only complaints about this one seemed to be about price, so I went ahead and made the purchase. Pros: 1. I really like having the cap for storage and to help keep it clean 2. Helps you achieve an evenly spread coating on the board. How much oil you add to the board is critical and I've learned to reduce the volume quite a bit. the first few times I still needed to use a paper towel to remove the excess. 3. I was not sure about the feel of the handle as I looked online, but this actually is comfortable to hold. Cons: 1. Price

Cutting board swab

Makes it a lot easier to maintain my cutting boards and use less oil. Love it!

Works perfectly

Now it is easy to keep my boards and utensils well oiled. I keep this on the counter beside the board. A quick swipe every few days after a good cleaning and my board is getting better & better. This makes it so easy! Good quality sponge applicator seems sturdy enough to last and the wood top is a pleasure to use. No more wasted oil. It is a little thing, but it makes a difference. Wish I had this years ago.

Well made, useful, and saves money

Better than expected! I've had my eye on this for a while because we have a large butcherblock-topped island. Oiling it by hand is a real chore and uses a tonne of product-this applicator has surprisingly cut back on the amount I need to use. I actually use it for both the Boos Oil and the wax and it seems fine. The sponge is firm and of good quality, and the wood feels like it's solid. I'm happy with it!

It isn’t a gimmick

So. I really wasn’t sure why I got this as it seemed gimmicky and I wasn’t sold on it. Paper towel has to be just as good and as simple. I was wrong. This thing is amazing. The sponge itself is quite sturdy and I was surprised at how much better it worked over paper towel. It actually doesn’t feel like a sponge per say but more like a scouring pad. But it is still soft in a sturdy way. Anyhow, I put the usual amount of oil on my board I’m used to and using this showed me how much oil was soaking up in the paper towel. It isn’t a lie when people say they can use half of what they used to use. This was definitely a good purchase and I am glad I gave it a try. Worth every penny and will cut the other Boos stuff I use on my board in half easily. I know it’s not a display item really but it would be cool if it was available in the differing wood colour the boards come in. That’s just me liking matchy matchy stuff though.

Just might pay for itself

I still think this product is overpriced (after all it's just a little piece of wood with a small sponge on it) but based on other reviews, I decided to give it a try. It works beautifully, the oil is distributed much quicker and more evenly than when using fingers and/or paper towels as I used to do. And it cuts down a lot on the amount of oil you need to use to get full coverage; also any leftover oil stays on the pad and keeps in the little cover. As the oil is not cheap, I think this little applicator will pay for itself in no time. As an added bonus it looks nice so you can leave it right beside the board and do quick touchups in between full oil applications.
