Heavy metal ramekin vs. ceramics
These pots are nice to look at. And attractive enough to serve food in them. For the preparation of food it may be another story. For a stove top cooking, it may be hard to find a burner small enough. It can certainly be put in the oven. Interestingly, side by side au gratin potatoes prepared in this pot and a similar size Pyrex dish came out baked in the glass and cooked in the steel pot. The lid: These come without a lid. The size of the pot is about right for a single serving of potatoes, etc., but this would need a lid for cooking. Fortunately, the handles end just slightly below being flush with the pot rim, so a larger flat lid from some other pot will fit.

These do NOT have an aluminum core. Still very nice.
The product description states: "18/10 stainless-steel interior and exterior with an aluminum core for superior heat conductivity" When I read that, I thought I was getting the tri-ply material. These arrived today, however, and they are solid 18/10 stainless steel, made in China. Amazon needs to update the product description and I have alerted them that there is an issue. That said, they are still very nice quality, heavy and solid. They will work fine for French onion soup. I feel much better using the stainless under the broiler. Ovenproof ceramic doesn't always survive well under that heat.

High Quality 18/10 Stainless Steel - Functional Design, Fine Craftsmanship
All-Clad Stainless 1/2-Quart Soup/Souffle Ramekins, Set of 2 These highly polished (outside only; inside, and bottom outside are matt finish), beautiful 18/10 Stainless Steel, round ramekins are excellent quality, durable, food grade, non-leaching, and a safe metal alloy especially, when preparing, and handling cooked or heated food. They are solid, durable, and heavy so you don't have to worry about knocking them over, and you can cook with them in the oven or on the stovetop. I'm very please with All-Clad's craftsmanship whereas, I now have several of these in particular, and you can tell that every detail including the rivets, which bind the handles to the bowl have been designed and made to fit perfectly. As others have mentioned you can hold ~ 2 cups, which is not too big or too small, and for a toaster/convection oven they fit just right. Treat yourself or a loved one to higher quality, sustainable, reusable, beautiful product, and you won't regret it, other than why didn't you do it sooner! Hope that this helps.

Even better than I expected
I read all the prior reviews and I don't need to repeat any of the many virtues the others raved about. It's all true. (I'm really surprised any restaurant below a five star would use them for food service. They must have a metal detector at the exit. See Pete's review dated October 16, 2007.) The actual "product dimensions" are: 4 1/2" inside diameter; 7 1/4" handle end to handle end; 2 1/4" deep. They hold 16 oz. with 2 oz. (or 1/2" height) remaining to the rim. And, FWIW, each one weighs 1 lb., 4 5/8 oz. Unlike the 7" oval bakers which carry the shiny stainless across the bottom, these have spun bottoms just like the pans. However, for anyone interested, they do not have the magnetic layer necessary for induction. Very, very nice. I'm glad I ignored the price and bought them.

Love it. Period.
I waited a little to buy it because, let's be honest, it not cheap and we have to weight priorities, right? Well, I did buy and I love it and I honestly forgot about the price because it is worth it. The quality stainless steel layers allows you to reheat soups or stew or anything you want to, in no time and to serve them really hot. And they will keep you food hot longer than regular bowls. I have used in the stove and in the oven. Excellent, both ways. And on top of everything, wash it and it looks like new. Not enough? They are really really, really cute. Overall? Five stars!

Don't buy this item Ramekin pots All-Clad you will be mad
Not as picture in mind it was made in China there was scratches on both pots plus it was so small for kids to play with it theses all-clad pots that wasn't right to me I so disappointed & verry mad I thought it would be a made in the USA & I thought it would be the the full size pots I wanted but it was not don't buy this Ramekin you will be so mad all-clad should Not make this item when you open your Amazon box

Great All-Clad product in design and workmanship
I just purchased 4 more of the All-Clad Stainless Steel Dishwasher Safe ramikens. They are the perfect size for French Onion Soup and work wonderful in the oven when it is on broil. I have had the first 4 dishes for at least 3 years and they are still as beautiful and shiny as my 4 new ones. The workmanship makes them well worth the price.
