A very good purchase
I have been using this product for about a month. So far it works as advertised and it has kept the rabbits' water from freezing in temperatures down to -5 Degrees. The spout is a bit different than the ball type my rabbits were used to, but they learned to use it very quickly. I read in other reviews about the lid hinge breaking so I handle the lid carefully and so far so good. As others have mentioned, it would be good to have a longer cord. The instructions say not to use an extension cord but because of the short cord you really have to. The short cord and the flimsy lid hinge are the only things keeping me from giving it 5 stars. I am glad I made this purchase.

The good and the bad after an Alaskan winter
We purchased 3 and were given 2 more in February. It was the first winter for all 5 water bottles. Of the first 3 they worked great even at -25F at keeping the water warm and ice free. However the lid hinges broke in the first 3 weeks so we just removed them. Water did leak from the nippes/spouts and they were filled 2x day for that reason. We did have ice damming problems in the hutch due to the leaking but rabbits had fresh water all day as long as it didn't leak out. Once or twice when it was extremely cold I heard rabbits squealing and I think their toung may have frozen to the metal nipple and rip the skin as on those days the nipple/spout would freeze. In January one bottle had the black heating pad separate from the bottle and the heating element burnt out but didn't melt the bottle. Of the 2 we were given they both worked for a week then one just stopped working. They were purchased in October by an older couple who had a very clean, organized fancy meat rabbit setup. They had all the bells and whistles and splurged on everything. Much fancier than our setup. Like the others they leak from the nipple in really cold weather and the lids also broke on them. In all fairness the kids fill up the water so probably had something to do with the lids but still would have been nice if more durable or if a replacement lid came with. I did break one lid hinge myself though and I am careful with the waters. 3 out of 5 made it through the winter but all leaked from the spout/nipple when it was colder than 10F and all ended up with broken lids. I would purchas again because the rabbits did have water even at -25F but I know that I will have to deal with broken lids and use summer water bottles once freezing isn't an issue because of the lids. We will look into trouble shooting the one that just randomly stopped working once the weather is warm enough for the summer bottles. Right now er just bring it in for 5 minutes and change out the water after melting ice. So close to warmer weather.

Brilliant solution to problem of frozen pet drinking bottles
I keep a couple of working ferrets here in Norfolk, UK. Since they are hardy they live out all year round and drink happily from the usual bunny bottles. When temperatures dip, however, the bottles freeze up and it's usually the stainless steel drinking nozzles that go first of course. You can insulate the bottle in bubblewrap or somesuch and that's ok for mild frosts, but there's nothing you can do to stop the nozzle freezing. You can buy an insulated jacket for the bottle, but same problem with the nozzle. As my ferrets only eat dry complete food they need to drink a lot of water, including during the night when their bottles may have frozen. With the weather we've been having here in the UK this winter, with night time temps dropping to -14DegC (6.8DegF)or less (nothing compared to North America, I realise), I decided something had to be done. Sooo... I started thinking how I might incorporate a small heater into an existing bunny bottle - maybe the lowest-power aquarium heater controlled by a domestic central heating frost thermostat. But then arose the problem of how to make safe electrical connections, water seal etc etc. Then I thought: where in the world do they know a thing or two about harsh weather and are inventive enough to come up with ways of combating it? Answer: the good old USA, of course. So I googled 'heated pet drinking bottle' and up came this product on Amazon.com. Well, I placed my order on Dec 7th and it arrived on Dec 18th - just 11 days from the USA to the UK in the pre-Christmas rush, including customs clearance. I've been waiting longer than that for items I ordered from Amazon UK and they still haven't arrived, so top marks for service! And the package was trackable online - how good is that for ordinary mail, not courier? Obviously, being an American product the voltage was 'wrong' - 110vAC instead of 220v AC but a quick visit to Amazon UK found me a small step-down transformer with built-in US-style socket for less than GBP7, so problem solved. Tip: make sure any transformer you buy produces at least 20 watts output or you can fry its internals - the one I got produced 45 watts so no problem. Installed and set up the bottle today and it's working fine - heater warming nicely. Intructions are a bit so-so, particularly what you do with the two little metal brackets included with the product. The two stretchy springs also included are all you need to attach the bottle to the mesh of a cage, so my guess is the two brackets are to give you attachment options for situations where there's no mesh available. I would agree with other criticisms that the mains lead/cord is way too short - 4 or 5 feet (1.5 metres)would be better; it would give more siting options for the connecting socket/outlet. And of course for we Europeans a 220-240v AC model would be even better. I've added a plug-in circuit breaker to protect the 30 metre extension cable I bought to take the household mains supply out to the ferret cage - just in case some rat decides to chew on the cable or the element or transformer fails and electrocutes a hapless ferret! The bottle holds 36 Fl Oz - or 900 mls as we say here in the developed world, which means it doesn't need filling every day! All I need now is for the ferrets to learn how to drink from the bottle's nozzle, but as they are quite bright I don't think it will take long - dying of thirst is a strong motivator.

Good product. Wish it had a longer cord though.
This product came in the day before our first snow. It had been in the 60s and then it dropped into the 20s. We ended up with a few inches of snow on the ground. The waters did not freeze and the nozzles didn't get too cold. I love how convenient these waterers are. You dont have to take them off the cage to fill them up. They were easy for my bunnies to figure out how to use and so far do not leak. I wish the cord was a bit longer, but everything works fine and that's all I am worried about.

Great for outdoor bunny cage
Worked great for our outdoor bunny cage to make sure the water doesn't freeze, but I do wish the cord was a little longer.

Works great but very difficult to clean
Works great for Minnesota winters. I am on my second year for a few and just got a few more. Never had any issues other then the cleaning. The design makes it difficult to fully clean inside. That is my only complaint.
