Wonderful Price - Easy Fix For a Sliding Door With a Broken Lock - or For Added Security

I bought this because I was tired of putting a 2x4 in the tracks of our sliding glass door. Our handle lock never worked from day one ( I suspect my husband did not install it correctly) and not to mention, they are easily broken anyway. We have a toddler that is into everything and after she grabbed the board and locked me out of the house, I realized that we needed to do away with that and also find something to keep the door secure- both inside and out. After reading several reviews and seeing the extremely affordable price, I thought this was worth a try. I did not like the idea of having to drill holes in the door and wall, but I thought I might give it a shot or maybe talk my husband into installing it. Well, it sat on our counter for about a week before I decided to take matters into my own hands and I installed this, with a toddler under foot, in about 20 or 30 minutes. I have tried and my husband has tried to yank the door open and so far this thing has held up. Obviously this does not prevent break-ins because they can just break the glass, but I would at least have a warning and it might make someone think twice.

Solid enough and simple to install

I really like how easy these are to install. The pair of small metal blocks makes it a lot easier to fit into awkward places. In fact, I wish they sold these blocks separately or as an add-on. The screws that go into the metal frame seem solid enough but the longer wood screws are cheaply made. They are soft metal, so they strip out easily and they don't seem beefy enough for the job. I ended up buying some alternate screws.

Great lock for double front doors

Terrific lock. Needed the larger span size for double 8ft front doors so our grandson won't be able to let himself outside. These doors have a raised metal astrigal between the doors and the bend cleared the metal perfectly. The only thing that could be better would be to offer it in white, or brushed nickel

Strong security solution for swinging or sliding doors

Very stiff, heavy and strong metal with chrome looking finish. This model has the two extra spacers or backing plates and costs the same as the model ithout the lates. 3 stars for ease of use because the design requires precision alignment when dropping the bolt into the receiver. A tapered hole design would allow easier operation, especially in dim light.

Easy to install, easy to use.

Hallway 1/2 bath has a sliding door that didn't lock anymore. Let's be honest, the lock on that door did not work well to begin with. Probably should have purchased the smaller one for my purposes, so make sure you pay attention to sizes. Used it anyway, easy to install, easy to use.

Works Great.

Install was easy. I used longer screws for the jamb side. It is much easier then using a 2" x 2" board in the track.

Horribly weak screws; good latches.

I want to give this 5 stars, but the screws that come with it are absolutely hilarious. They're horrid. Replace with proper security screws and I'll reconsider. Until then, I recommend people upgrade the screws so you don't shear the head off like I did.
