SO EASY -No need to remove your factory tow hooks if you have them on Chevy/GMC 2500 HD Classic

I have a 2007 Chevy/GMC 2500 HD Classic. Ad says you need to remove your factory tow hooks but that was not true for mine. Each tow hook has three threaded holes and easily slides into the front of the frame -one for each side of the frame and one for the bottom frame hole. This hitch mounts to the two inner holes and the two underside holes. I left the outside tow hook bolts on, loosened them just so I could wiggle the hooks around to line up the holes again for the hitch and reinstalled them. Took just a few minutes with no help. You can use your existing hardware, theirs, or mix/match, heads are different sizes but threads are the same. I used nothing but a common metric socket set. I trimmed a little of the lower plastic bumper skirt with a jigsaw just so the hitch would push up on it slightly but it was not even necessary. Not sure if this is the case for all makes/models this hitch fits but certainly any like my body style. Only four mount bolts but they are beefy enough. Not worried about carrying my back rack or pushing trailers around. Plenty solid.

Be prepared to cut or drill

Good product but unfortunately GM or Curtis don’t have the same specs. Was thinking about a hour to install but it took 2

No hardware or instructions included however...

it's quite simple: 6 grade 8 (GR8 bolts), nuts and 12 washers. 2 @ 1.75, 4 @ 12mm X 45mm or 4 @ 7/16 X 1.75. I'm not using the hitch to pull anything it's for a utility rack carrying less than 400lbs so I trust my hardware will work fine. Installation is about 15-20 minutes. My truck: 2006 Chevy 2500HD w/o tow hooks

Great Solution for Winch Mount!

Very Impressed with this product. I drive a 2001 2500HD 4 door longbox Silverado ado with the Duramax and install was a breeze. Like others said, getting the washers in the right spot between the frame and the receiver was the toughest part but it still only took me an hour by myself. If you're like me, you were skeptical of this unit destroying you ground clearance. I was thinking I would by this to save myself some fabrication time, and cut it apart and move the receiver up higher and into a hole in the bumper. well I installed it for giggles last night and I was very impressed with the design. Curt got the receiver as absolutely high off of the ground as possible without requiring bumper modification. In fact, I lost Zero ground clearance. The lowest part of the receiver still sits about a half inch higher than the first cross member that the lower a arms bolt to. My pickup is stock ride height and tires and I still have 12" of clearance underneath the reciever. The receiver doesn't stick out any further than the bumper either. It is actually about 3/4" rearward of the front face of the bumper. I did sacrifice some approach angle but this 21' long boat is not exactly a rockcrawler so I think I'll be just fine. I bought this to use as a winch mount and I think this is going to be perfect. I was impressed that it is rated at 9,000 pounds for a straight line pull with only 4 bolts holding it in.

I just installed this on my 2002 Silverado 2500HD. I’m not sure why they say you must remove the factory tow hooks, instructions give you 2 options - installing with or without the factory tow hooks. I left mine on, it bolted right up. I did it myself in about 30 minutes. Original bolts are 18mm, new ones are M12 19mm I torqued to 78 foot pounds. Super fast, super easy, and it’s rock solid. I also didn’t have to trim any front plastic - it pushed it up a bit but who cares - you can’t see it. Going to use it for a bike rack. Great!!

Second time's the charm

This model worked, but Amazon's fit guide originally said it wouldn't and recommended a different model (31302) that I purchased for my 2005 Chevy Avalanche 2500. Before I even tried to install the first one I called Curt's tech support as their instructions cited a couple of different GMC/Chevy models, but not mine so I was suspicious from the start. Their tech support assured me the model recommended by Amazon's fit guide would work for my model. After about an hour of frustration I called back and spoke to the same tech assuring him there was no way it was going to fit and that the diagram they showed for my frame in their instructions didn't even match mine. (Granted, there aren't too many 3/4 ton Avalanches out there and when you add the variables of whether the model has the Tupperware (i.e. cladding) around it or not, it's not the easiest model to accommodate, but come on, we're talking the frame here.) To his credit, he asked me to email him some pictures and he'd discuss it w/ an engineer on Monday morning. (I was impressed to be able to speak w/ a customer service rep late on a Friday.) Before doing that I went to eTrailer.com and saw they recommended this model (31108) for my vehicle, not the 31302 and had Curt's install diagram available for download which confirmed it matched my frame. I would've preferred giving eTrailer.com my business for their value added service, but by this point it was easier to do the exchange through Amazon. While I'd only give Amazon's fit guide 1 star (and at least for the Avalanche, I see from other reviewers I'm not alone), their exchange service was superb in that the replacement arrived w/in a few days and they paid the return shipping (for one heavy chunk of metal) both ways and dispatched UPS to pick it up the wrong part from my front door.

Curt 31108 front mount hitch

Arrived complete and well packaged. Included instructions are a little vague. YouTube has great install videos. Installed on my 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, old body style, in about an hour. As others have mentioned, tightening the side bolts once the hitch is positioned is a little tricky with the air dam in place. I did not need to trim the air dam for the install. Happy with my purchase.

Works great. Fit perfectly

Delivery was fast. Instructions were a bit brief for the average DIY'r, but I did get it done. It fit perfectly. It would be very difficult to install without an air ratchet (not a lot of room for a hand socket).
