There's a moral at the end of this story...
So I decided to "work on" my old pickup that has been sitting under a tree for 19 years. "This will be easy," I thought. I'll just change the oil and spark plugs, put a new battery in and go from there. So, I go down to the local auto parts store and buy a pan to catch the old oil in, some new oil and new spark plugs, a new battery, a new oil filter and an oil filter wrench. I even bought some of those cool mechanics gloves so the neighbors will think I'm an old hand at this. "I'll have this thing cranking by dinner time," I tell myself. So first things first, I remove the oil drain plug and let the old gunk stream out (making sure to get my mechanic's gloves a little dirty so they look "experienced"). Then, I put the oil wrench (you know, the standard strap-design) on the old filter and start working. The filter doesn't budge. So I work harder and eventually the old oil filter just twists on itself but still doesn't budge from the threads. Okay, no big deal, it has been sitting for almost 20 years. So I go back to the store and buy the fancier kind that hooks up to a ratchet and go back home to have another go at things. After about 30-45 minutes of maneuvering and twisting and cursing and sweating and even hammering the ratchet handle with a claw hammer to help it twist the old filter off, the filter is even more twisted but still stuck firmly in place. So I decide to bring out the big guns... I get an extremely large, flathead screwdriver from the bowels of my tool chest that has never been used (who needs a flathead screwdriver the size of a walking cane anyways?) and put the tip of it agains the oil filter and hammer it though. "This sucker is whipped now," I said out loud. Or at least some word that rhymed with sucker. Then I twisted that screwdriver and gave it my all and it ripped that filter to shreds! But the threads didn't move. So, I came on Amazon and looked around for a different type of oil filter wrench and came across this thing. "This thing looks too flimsy to do any better than the hell I just put that old filter through," I thought to myself as I clicked "Proceed to checkout." But all of the good reviews convinced me I had nothing to lose. Besides, I can just return it if it doesn't work and write a review about how all of the other reviewers were nuts for thinking this thing was "all that." It arrived in the mail the next day and I was excited to try it out, but still skeptical. I blocked my schedule for the evening because I was determined to make SOMETHING get that oil filter off, starting with this tool. I put my gloves on (which by this time had me looking like the Chief of a Nascar pit crew), told my fiancé to eat dinner without me, and headed to the garage. I laid out all of the other, failed tools beside my mechanic creeper for back up, put some Van Halen on the bluetooth to keep me motivated, then I grabbed this tool and rolled under the old Ford. I put the mouth of this tool at the base of the oil filter with the teeth gripping the stubborn oil filter like an alligator crushing a human skull and twisted...and the filter came right off. So the morale of the story is this: The right tool really does matter. And if you have a stubborn oil filter, buy this tool.

You can't beat American Quality
I use these frequently on my irrigation pipe unions, sewer plumbing and as well as for the oil filter tool they were originally designed for. Great tool.

Great tool for pipes too
Had to replace faucets which required removing the trap. My other pliers wouldn’t do it without damage but this was great. I do wish there was a smaller one.

What a difference the right tool makes.
Right tool for the job. I put in a new bathroom sink and this tool was essential in two places. I got one of those lavatory pop-up, kits with a brass, polished chrome finish. There is a skinny cast brass lock nut, a washer above it and then a heavy duty rubber Mack washer that seals the bottom of the sink where the drain hole is for the drain pipe. These skinny, wide gripping pliers made it easy to grip and tighten up that skinny brass lock nut. It leaked at first so I removed the nut and applied pipe dope very liberally. That acted as a lubricant and made it easy to tighten up that brass lock nut way up more than I had tightened it up before. Also I had to loosen the black ABS nut on a slip joint on the shot end of the black ABS trap so it could pivot easily when I lined up the trap with the new drain pipe. The new sink drain was about 2 inches more forward to the front end of the vanity than the old sink drain. I couldn't have loosened that big black ABS nut or tightened it back up without this tool. I'm looking forward to trying it out the next time I change the engine oil and filter on my car. I just finished up the bathroom drain plumbing after starting the job a week ago. I couldn't have finished it without this tool. So I came on line and posted this review right away. The fact that I might be able to use it to change my oil filter is just frosting on the cake.

When it comes to buying an oil filter remover tool . . .
. . . GET THE SMALLEST TOOL AVAILABLE! There will always be a tight fit or some obstruction that gets in the way when you need to remove the oil filter from the engine. I stupidly bought one of those filter removers that fit on the end of the filter, only to find out there is no room to attach a breaker bar, much less a ratchet, to get the tool to work! I bought it several months ago so I can no longer return it. So I ordered this tool and had to postpone changing the oil on the car until I received it. I bought this Channellock over the Tektron, which is 30% cheaper and has 4 times as many 4.5 star reviews because I could clearly see the handles were slimmer and less bulky so it would fit better in tight spots. One thing nice about this Channellock is you can 'fine tune' the grab on the filter. It will actually grab it effectively at many different adjustment spots on the wrench but you can select a setting where all three claws dig in the best. Another good thing about this tool versus the strap-type is it's easy to figure out what orientation to use to remove the filter. With the strap or band-type remover it will only work in one of two orientations which is an additional hassle to figure out. True, when you receive it this tool is smaller than most expect, but that's the idea, right?

Great quality, brilliant price
Very well made tool and the adjustment to get the teeth to engage with plastic pipe fittings was simple to use and worked well. I'm really pleased I got these, I only use them a couple of times a year but they make a two minute job exactly that rather than having to struggle improvising a way to assemble and disassemble the pipes I service. An easy 5 Stars.

Very pleased
Came from the USA, so had to wait a while. Work perfectly tightening large plastic nut on cisterns. They will last a long time being well made.

Good for tight places
The good: It enables you to get into tight places. The bad: it's short and doesn't give you much leverage to loosen a very tight filter in such tight places. That said, it's worked on 3 different model cars for me.

Do not store with your other pool supplies....
I use this tool for my pool plumbing, so I left it in the same box as the chemicals I put in the pool, alcalinity, chlorine, PH... But all of them in their own containers within the same box... After a few months, the tool was all corroded... Otherwise, works as intended!
