Buzzed at first, until first press of door button! DING-DONG!
This was an exact replacement for our 11-year old Nutone doorbell, which broke when the front door solenoid plunger and spring mechanism came apart, also causing the 16V transformer to short out. So basically we needed everything but the doorbell push-buttons. Installation was easy enough, once I turned off the breaker for the circuit powering the transformer. But I was surprised when after turning the breaker back on, the unit was emitting a strange buzzing noise! It's not like it's a complicated wiring scheme, lol. But the first press of the doorbell fixed that issue (DING-DONG!). I'm guessing that solenoid was stuck in place from shipping, or whatever. Anyway, it works perfectly now--no more buzzing. Hoping for another 11 years of service, but as others have mentioned, the solenoid plunger design seems (deliberately) fragile..

Ok builder's grade door chime kit for the price but don’t expect the chime to last a long time.
Included with the doorbell kit are the instructions, two doorbell buttons/mounting screws, transformer, wall chime, and the mounting screws for the doorbell chime. The instructions are ok but could be better as the directions are pushed together and could be a bit clearer. Luckily, these are pretty easy to install. I got this doorbell kit because my previous Nutone chime quit working after about 3 years of light use and I wanted to make sure I got something that would be compatible with what I already have as I am only replacing the chime, since everything else is working. Because the kits are about the same price as buying the chime by itself, I decided to get the kit instead. As other reviewers have indicated, the part most likely to fail (the chime) is what has gone bad on mine as the spring and mechanism that rings the chime bar has fallen apart. This particular part could be better made as they don’t seem to be made very durable as the spring is thin and the plastic striker is likely to fail over time. This brand is what is normally installed by builders and I would consider this a no frills builder’s grade kit. The tone is a basic two rings or one ring chime, depending on how you connect the chime. If you need doorbells on two doors, you can connect up both, although one will only be one ring. Front has two rings, back connection, one ring. The transformer and buttons are decent quality but unless my originals suddenly fail, they will stay in the box. It is nice that both buttons light up. Since I am only replacing the chime, it took me less than five minutes to do as I just undid the wires on the chime and unscrewed it from the wall and then put the new one on. Even with installing the complete doorbell kit, it should take less than 15 minutes, although make sure you turn off the power to the breaker if you are replacing the transformer. The chime box is a bit large at 9 by 5 inches and sticks out about 2 inches but if you have a neutral color wall, this isn’t really noticeable. If you are looking for something fancy, this isn’t the doorbell to get. The door chime is upstairs and I do wish that the chime was a bit louder as I had to add a chime extender in order for me to reliably hear the chime downstairs. This is ok for a basic builder’s grade doorbell at a reasonable price. The kit has a one-year warranty which is ok but don’t expect the rather mediocre quality chime to last more than 3 to 4 years of use before needing replacement. 3 stars

Works great
I replaced a Nutone chime with this one - looked almost exactly the same - I actually used the same screws that held up the old one but didn't install it sideways as per the directions. If you put it sideways - lengthwise I think the chimes lay on the rubber nodes and deaded some of the doorbell sound - so why not hang them straight up and down to ring better. I had already bought a new lighted doorbell and I read if the doorbell button light is on - the transformer is ok - my transformer is attached to the electrical service box in basement. also with the chime and chime cover going up and down and not sideways the holes on the sides point the sound better I believe sideways and not down to rug and up to ceiling - sounds better to me. Not hard to wire up. good enough - it works.

Decent product, so-so installation instructions
The door bell is a 2-tone for the front door, but only a single tone for the rear bell (if used). If a second chime is to be located somewhere else in the house you need to have a slighlty different and stronger transformer per the installation instructions. You can use this with only one pushbutton is used the 2-tone will work if the bell wire is connected to the "FRONT" treminal. The door bell instructions are written by someone who uses terminology that is not explained well.

Good price, and seems pretty solid.
I installed this doing a complete new installation, as I never had a doorbell for the back door. So this kit is exactly what I was looking for. Wiring is pretty straightforward , as long as you have some basic electronics knowledge, otherwise , the included instructions, are pretty self explanatory. I didn't have too far to run the wire from the button to the transformer, so I used #20 gauge wire. Transformer is rated for 16VAC, and 10VA. For safety sake, I fused the primary of the transformer with a 1A inline fuse, but my understanding is that there is a built in fuse, under the paper core of the transformer, in case anything ever shorts out. Button seems to have a nice feel to it and both buttons that come with it , are both illuminated, and the chime is actually louder then I thought it would be. So I am very happy with my purchase. I eventually want to buy a Nest Doorbell, and that requires 14-24 VAC to operate it, so I am all ready now, when I upgrade to my new Nest Doorbell, down the road, but for now I am quite satisfied as how this came out.

Best bang for the bucks, really all you need and nothing you don't....
Used many of them, overall pretty good, reliable, work well, have same in my own home over 12 years, still working good.. best part is that ringer has no issues with higher voltage and does not generate power noise as some do (can be a problem with "video doorbell" transformer pull a bit higher voltage (good - less amp draw) but still better get higher load one if more than one video doorbell ... One mostly work fine... but if need more then just buy a higher power transformer into the same kit... Ringer itself was tested with 36v 20-40va on either single and double video doorbell from alarm.com and Google...no issues, noise or other problems common for old units... Can't get pics again Amazon app hanging, will add via pc later..

Works
It’s a doorbell that dings when supposed to. East to install but too soon to rate for durability and longevity. It’s a builder grade product and priced right
