Last about 2 weeks but the water sparkles like a swimming pool
I use these only when I'm having people over for a celebration so that the water is crystal clear for my two 7" goldfish that live tight but comfy in a 30 gallon tack I keep in my dinning room area. That large of goldfish should be in a pond. No one told me that they can grow that big or live for 40 years! I use the other size, the Micro Filtration for every day use and it cleans the water so its clear but the SUPER micro makes the water sparkle like a swimming pool. The SUPER micro only lasts about 2 weeks before my goldies have it all icky. The standard Micro lasts for about 3 months. I love my API Filstar Med filter system. It keeps the 30 gallon tank very clean and healthy.

These filters do a great job filtering the finer particles and polishing your water.
Great product, and excellent filtration media. These filters do a great job filtering the finer particles and polishing your water. I use them in the top as well as the bottom basket of my filter system. I get about 2-3 months use out of them.

Works perfect in the Filstar XP3
I have been using these my Filstar XP3 canister filter for years. I wash and re-use most of the media, except for these pads, which I completely replace. They usually last about 2 months. After completing maintenance on my filter and replacing with these pads, the water seems to be remarkably clearer. They seem to be scrubbing the water well. I have used both these "super" micro filtration pads and the plain white pads, and these seem to be better, but don't last as long. I guess they clog faster.

STRONGLY advise against this filter
I have an API Filstar XP on a 36G tank. I've used charcoal and a microfilter for years, but decided to add a super microfilter thinking that it would make my water cleaner. After 2 days, my fish was lethargic and not eating. I took the pump apart and cleaned it, but the next day there was no improvement. Then I did a 25% water change, and saw that the water wasn't coming out of the pump anywhere NEAR as strong as usual! I took the pump apart again, removed the super microfilter, then put it back; pump strength was back to normal, and within an hour my fish was eating and seeming much better. The pump simply is not strong enough to push water through this filter at an adequate rate.

Green is on top!
It really scrubs the water and I use it in my final compartment. Much than any other filter, but the price is a big set back.

Pretty much necessary
If you’re using the filter that these fit in (Rena XP Filter-Star, I think), then these are the final step of the ‘mechanical filtration’ process. Your filter will have 1, 2, 3, or 4 baskets . For those of you who are somewhat new to the aquarium game, ‘mechanical’ is the first stage of the filtration process that removes the actual visible crud (uneaten food and poop) from the water. It took me several years to discover that ‘mechanical’ has nothing to do with moving parts. :^P The mechanical stage has several components going from coarse to fine particle removal, with a different filter pad for each, and these particular filter pads are the ‘finest’ and final stage of the mechanical stage. In theory, there should be no particles left exiting the mechanical filter. This pad is also a good indicator as to whether or not you’re overfeeding. If it turns brown very quickly, then you are overfeeding. Next is the ‘chemical’ stage with variable components depending on your water needs. The final stage is the ‘biological’ stage. This is where some of the good bacteria live… they also live on your hardscape (gravel, sand, ornaments, etc.). If necessary (your filter doesn’t have enough stages), and I will probably be shunned for saying this, you can rely on the bacteria living in your tank and omit this stage from your filter. If you are using the single-box version of these filters, I would recommend doing mechanical filtering only, and let the hardscape in your tank host the bacteria. I apologize for such a long review, I just wanted to be clear on these pads’ role in the entire filtering process, without having to piece it together over years like I did :^D Mark

Incorrect amount sent
The size listed a 3 pack, I bought 4, expecting 12 total pads, but they were all 2 packs and I only received 8 total
